For all those awaiting iPhone 15 series, there’s a pouring of leaks. We already saw a new darker red color variant and CAD renders for the supposed iPhone 15 series. Cut to now, there’s a report doing the rounds suggesting iPhone 15 Pro models will get capacitive buttons instead of physical volume and alert sliders.

iPhone 15 Pro is prepping for capacitive buttons

The latest slew of reports suggests Apple is working on a single button for both volume up and down functionalities. It won’t be using separate buttons but rather a capacitive type of buttons that you can click. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that iPhone 15 pro models will use something called a solid-state button design that was also seen in the CAD renders.

For the unversed, solid-state buttons are basically capacitive buttons that we have already seen with iPhone 7 and 8 i.e. the transition of home buttons. If that’s not all, Apple is reportedly working on upping its game with a new type of alert slider. It will use capacitive buttons to signal silent or ringing mode that will be adjoined with haptic touch to give users feedback.

Essentially, neither the volume nor the alert slider will have a physically moving mechanism and instead, it will be all capacitive with a haptic button on the cue. Note that It remains to be seen if volume rockers will have two separate buttons or a single button to control both functions.

These changes are expected to populate on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max (or Ultra, in case) once they arrive later this year. There’s USB Type-C in the world that we will get to see across the lineup. That’s not it. The Dynamic Island which was a part of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will likely arrive on all four (or five) models under the iPhone 15 lineup ditching the notch altogether.

It’s no surprise that we will get to see hundreds of pieces of leaks and rumors stemming from various sources until iPhone 15 series arrives this September. It will be accompanied by an Apple A17 Bionic chipset, USB 3.2 on Pro, and USB 2.0 on non-Pro models among others.
