TL; DR
  • iOS 27 supports the same iPhones as iOS 26, with compatibility extending from the iPhone 11 series to the latest iPhone 17 lineup.
  • Advanced Apple Intelligence features require an A17 Pro chip or newer, limiting the full Siri AI experience to iPhone 15 Pro models and newer devices.
  • Apple is bringing major upgrades across Siri, Photos, performance, parental controls, and system-wide intelligence when iOS 27 launches this September.

Apple confirmed at WWDC 2026 that iOS 27 will be available on all iPhones currently running iOS 26. That means no devices are being dropped this year, making it one of the longest support windows Apple has ever offered for iPhone users.

The update will be available on:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation)
  • iPhone SE (3rd generation)
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 17e

This means the iPhone 11 series will continue to receive major iOS updates for at least one more year, extending support well beyond the typical five-to-six-year cycle Apple has followed in the past.

Devices that will not receive iOS 27 include the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the original iPhone SE (1st generation). These models stopped receiving major updates with iOS 26 or earlier.

Which iPhones Get Full Apple Intelligence Features?

Apple says the complete Apple Intelligence experience requires the A17 Pro chip or newer. That means the following devices receive the most advanced AI features:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • All iPhone 16 models
  • All iPhone 17 models

These devices gain access to the newest Siri AI experience, photorealistic Image Playground generation, Spatial Reframe in Photos, better Clean Up, Extend, and more. Within these supported devices, iPhone 17 Pro series and the iPhone Air will get the best on-device models, thanks to the 12GB RAM.

Key iOS 27 Features

The biggest addition in iOS 27 is Siri AI. Siri can now maintain conversation context, understand what’s on your screen, access personal data with permission, and complete multi-step tasks across apps. Apple has also introduced a new Siri app and deeper Apple Intelligence integration.

Photos gains Spatial Reframe, allowing users to reposition subjects, adjust compositions, and expand backgrounds after a photo is taken. Image Playground now supports photorealistic image generation, while Memory Movies automatically create themed video compilations from your library.

Apple is also promising noticeable performance improvements, including up to 30% faster app launches, 70% faster photo library loading, 80% faster AirDrop transfers, faster external storage transfers, smoother multitasking, and improved battery efficiency on older devices.

Elsewhere, iOS 27 introduces customizable Liquid Glass controls, smarter dictation with automatic grammar and punctuation correction, natural-language Shortcuts creation, upgraded parental controls, AI-powered app limits, and expanded Family Sharing safety tools.

Release Date

Developer beta 1 of iOS 27 is available now through the Apple Developer Program. Apple will release the public beta in July, followed by the stable version in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series.

For users wondering whether their device will receive the update, the answer is simple: if your iPhone runs iOS 26, it will run iOS 27 too.
