Intel has introduced the H-range of mobile processors from its 11th gen Tiger Lake family. For the unversed, the H modifier denotes high-performance optimized for mobile machines viz. laptops. It is still based on a 10nm Willow Cove microarchitecture but does boast overclock ability. The top-end product in this lineup is the Intel Core i9-11980HK (K stands for unlocked) processor. Let’s take a deeper dive at what this particular chip as well as the entire lineup has to offer.

Intel 11th gen Tiger Lake-H specs

Intel Tiger Lake-H series comprises both 6 (12 threads) and 8 (16 threads) cores CPUs. They all command 1.25 MB of exclusive L2 cache, up to 3 MB of shared L3 cache, and Xe-LP iGPU. Here’s the entire roster of the new consumer releases:

Now the star of the show is Core i9-11980HK which comes with eight cores that could not only run at 2.6 GHz for 45W TDP but also clock a base frequency of 3.3 GHz for 65W. What’s more, as the HK suffix suggests this can be overclocked beyond the 65W thermal limit. Now all these are still cycling at base speeds. Incidentally, the i9-11980HK can clock up to 4.5 GHz all-core turbo, 4.9 GHz traditional turbo, and 5.0 GHz with Turbo Boost Max 3.0. The TB Max 3.0 means, when required, the system shall pass workloads to the fastest cores of the lot.

Other features worth noting are DDR4-3200 RAM, 20 lane PCIe 4.0 interface for discrete graphics and storage (RAID 0), native Thunderbolt 4 support, built-in Killer AX1675 Wi-Fi 6E, 1080p panels @360Hz, or 4K 120 Hz panels, Resizeable BAR, Windows Direct Storage, among other things.
