Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Design and Build

Infinix has made a notable departure in design with the Infinix Note 50x, which significantly differs from its predecessor, the Infinix Note 40x, released in 2024. The rear camera module has been entirely reimagined, offering a striking visual and tactile experience. The device is available in three colors: Titanium Grey, Enchanted Purple, and Breeze Green.

For this review, I received the Titanium Grey variant. The grey back presents a subtle yet premium appearance with a matte finish, although it is susceptible to smudges and fingerprints. For those who prefer bolder colors, the Purple and Green options are available, but for a more sophisticated look, Grey is the ideal choice. I appreciated the elegant look it displayed when held.

The rear panel features an octagonal camera module positioned at the top-left corner, which slightly protrudes, causing the device to wobble when placed on a flat surface. This module is equipped with two camera sensors and an LED flash for photography. The remainder of the back panel is designed with a minimalist approach, showcasing the Infinix branding at the bottom.

Although the Infinix Note 50x 5G is constructed from plastic, it does not appear cheap, thanks to a special coating that provides a premium finish. When held, the phone exudes a high-end feel, leading many to underestimate its price point of under 15,000.

In terms of functionality, the right side of the device features volume controls and the power button, while the left side is equipped with a SIM card tray. The bottom edge contains a USB Type-C port and a speaker grille, whereas the top edge has an additional speaker. The phone boasts an IP69 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water splashes, and it is MIL-STD-810H military certified for durability, which is impressive for its price range.

Although the design may not be the sleekest, it is still slimmer than many competing models. The Infinix Note 50x 5G measures 7.98mm in thickness and weighs 195.4 grams, making it comfortable to hold. Overall, Infinix deserves recognition for delivering a durable smartphone with a premium finish at an affordable price.

Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Display

The Infinix Note 50x 5G features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ (720p) resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a brightness level of 672 nits. While the display provides satisfactory visuals, it falls short of Full-HD resolution, which is commonly found in most smartphones priced under 20,000.

I watched several Pakistani shows on YouTube, and although the colors were acceptable, the lower resolution resulted in less sharp visuals. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures a smooth experience for gaming and scrolling, which is commendable.

However, the brightness of 672 nits can be disappointing when exposed to direct sunlight. Additionally, the side-mounted fingerprint scanner is responsive and efficient, and features like Wet/Greasy touch support and Always-On Display are noteworthy. Nevertheless, it seems the brand has made some compromises regarding the display quality.

There is also an Always On Display option in the settings menu, but this AOD is not your typical AOD seen on AMOLED displays. The display here only shows the information you want to see when you tap on it.

Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Software

The Infinix Note 50x 5G is equipped with XOS 15, which is built on Android 15. This version of XOS 15 brings several significant enhancements, such as improved app animations, a revamped app drawer, and a more visually appealing and streamlined user interface.

Infinix has made an effort to reduce the number of pre-installed applications, lowering it to 48, which is commendable; however, there is still a considerable amount of bloatware included. The good news is that the bloatware is uninstallable, so you can remove the apps you don’t want to use. The company has committed to providing two OS updates and three years of security patches, ensuring support up to Android 17.

Many AI features are also integrated into the Infinix Note 50x 5G+. Among these features, the Gallery app offers practical tools; for instance, you can long-press on any photo to extract objects. These objects can be saved as cutouts or shared directly from the screen.

Additionally, you can copy text from your captured images, which proves beneficial for managing bills or receipts. Another notable feature is Google’s timeless Circle to Search, which I consider one of the most valuable AI tools available.

Additional AI functionalities encompass call translation available on Messenger and WhatsApp, facilitating bi-directional translations in multiple Indian languages. I tested this feature with Hindi and English; while translations were provided, there were instances where the context was lost within sentences.

Other AI tools include Wallpaper Generator, AI Notes, and Writing and Document features. The Smart Translation tool effectively translates text in real-time on-screen. Overall, the Infinix Note 50x delivers a great software experience for the price.

Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Performance

The Infinix Note 50x 5G+ is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultimate chipset, offering configurations of up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The brand has ensured that there are no compromises in everyday performance, as this processor is also found in more expensive models like the POCO X7.

It is capable of managing a wide range of daily tasks with ease. My typical usage includes making calls, sending messages, browsing social media, taking photos, listening to music, engaging in light gaming, and watching videos. I could do all of this without needing to close any applications.

However, I did notice that the phone would kill some apps hence I would call the RAM management decent. In summary, multitasking on the Infinix Note 50x 5G was a good experience overall.

When it comes to gaming performance, this phone is not specifically designed for gaming, yet it can still manage demanding games effectively. Games such as BGMI and COD ran smoothly at medium graphics settings. After approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, the device experienced some heating, but not to an uncomfortable degree.

In terms of connectivity, the phone offers 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, OTG, and a USB Type-C port. It supports nine 5G bands, and the calling experience on the device was also seamless.

Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Cameras

The Infinix Note 50x 5G appears to have downgraded its camera configuration compared to the previous model, at least on paper. The Note 40x boasted a 108MP main camera, whereas this model is equipped with a 50MP AI camera paired with an 8MP ultrawide sensor. While it may initially seem that the camera quality has declined, I found that the 50MP AI camera performed surprisingly well during my experience.

Daylight Photography

The primary camera produced attractive and vibrant images when tested in natural daylight. The photographs are rich in detail, exhibiting a good dynamic range and clarity. Human subjects are represented accurately, with true-to-life skin tones; however, there is room for enhancement in facial detail and other features.

The color profile leans slightly warmer compared to images from other devices. Occasionally, it captures images with overly vivid colors, which can impact the overall aesthetic. The sharpness of the images is satisfactory. The camera samples provided below illustrate the capabilities of the 50MP AI sensor in daylight conditions.

A 50MP mode is also available, aiming to effectively capture details and colors, and it achieves this to some degree. However, there are instances where it struggles to produce natural images as successfully as the standard mode. Below are some daylight photographs taken in 50MP mode.

When the AI Camera is activated, there are two in-sensor zoom options available: 1x and 2x. Additionally, it offers a maximum of 10x digital zoom; however, images taken at this level tend to be blurry and lack detail.

Lowlight Photography

When the super night mode is activated for low-light photography, the results are satisfactory. I took pictures in settings with adequate lighting during the night, and while the images displayed some detail, they were not as sharp as those taken in daylight. Indoor shots did exhibit some noise, but the colors remained true to life, even though the light sources appeared overexposed. Below are examples of photos taken in low-light situations.

Portrait Photography

A quality portrait mode featuring 1x and 2x zoom options remains uncommon in smartphones priced under 15,000. Nevertheless, the Infinix Note 50x excels in this area, delivering impressive portrait images in both bright and low-light conditions. The colors are vibrant and detailed, while the edge detection and skin tone representation are satisfactory. This performance gives the Infinix Note 50x an advantage over the Poco M7 within the same price range.

Selfie Camera

The smartphone features an 8MP front-facing camera that excels in capturing detail and accurately representing skin tones. In natural daylight, it effectively emphasizes the subject without the use of filters or effects. The selfies maintain a natural and authentic appearance, avoiding overly bright or washed-out faces, which is a significant advantage. Take a look at some of the selfies taken here.

Video Recording

The phone is capable of recording videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second or in 4K at the same frame rate. I filmed some slow-motion videos in natural lighting, and the results were satisfactory and met my expectations.

Infinix Note 50x 5G Review: Battery Life and Charging

The Infinix Note 50x 5G is equipped with a 5500mAh battery. During regular use, which included video calls, messaging, gaming, music playback, photography, video streaming, and running benchmarks, the battery still retained 12-15% charge by the end of the day. This indicates that the battery performs effectively even under demanding conditions, making the absence of a 6000mAh battery less noticeable.

In terms of charging capabilities, it offers 45W wired charging, which can fully charge the battery from 1% to 100% in approximately 52 minutes. This charging speed is quite reasonable, as it takes about 25 minutes to reach a 50% charge. Additionally, bypass charging is an option, allowing power to be directed straight to the motherboard rather than the battery, thereby minimizing heat generation during gaming sessions. 10W reverse charging is also available.

Review Verdict: Should You Buy the Infinix Note 50x 5G?

Smartprix ⭐ Rating: 8.0/10

  • Battery Life & Charging: 8.5/10
  • Design and Build: 8.5/10
  • Display: 7.5/10
  • Software: 7.5/10
  • Performance: 8/10
  • Cameras: 8/10

The Infinix Note 50x 5G is a well-equipped smartphone, starting at a price of Rs. 11,499. It delivers solid performance for its cost, featuring a 5500mAh battery, a Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset, a sleek yet robust design, and a 50MP AI camera on the rear. Although it comes with some pre-installed bloatware and the IPS LCD display may not impress, these drawbacks are not significant given its price. Additionally, it has the potential to be a reliable device for daily use.
