Huawei Kirin 820 SoC with integrated 5G goes official

At the Honor 30S launch event, Huawei unveiled the Kirin 820 chipset as its new mid-tier offering. Needless to say, the chipset powers the new phone. It is a 7nm based silicon with 5G prowess out of the box. Yes, it is integrated and dual-mode, ie., support for both SA and NSA bands.

Without any further ado, here’s a quick look at what’s new on this chip –

Kirin 820 5G SoC Specs

The structure is like this: 4x ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores (one of which is clocked at 2.36GHz, while the rest three at 2.22GHz) and 4x ARM Cortex-A55
efficiency cores marked at 1.84GHz. They are fabricated on a 7nm architecture.

The new design pledges a 27% CPU performance gain over the precursor. Additionally, there’s the new ARM Mali-G57 MP6 GPU, which vaunts a 38% performance bump on the gaming front. It also comes with Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 technology.

That’s not it. Huawei claims a 73% improvement in AI performance in lieu of the upgraded NPU with 1.33 TFLOPS. Amongst other things, you also get Kirin ISP 5.0, BM3D SLR image noise reduction and video dual-domain noise reduction.

Kirin 820 5G SoC Phones

Honor 30S is the first phone to ship with the Kirin 820 SoC. You could expect it to power more mid-tier Huawei and Honor phones down the line.
