HTC’s ‘Squeezed’ Invite For May 16th Event Raises Curiosity

Taiwanese company HTC dished out flyers indicating that that may very well be planning to unleash something very unique, that will unfurl on 16th May. The flyer(s) in question sport the slogan ‘Press for the splendid U (sic)’.

Started thinking what it could mean? Welcome to the club.

All things considered, it could be something we’ve prominently heard of over the past couple of months – an up and coming smartphone, codenamed Ocean, to be officially be brought out as the HTC U – and, it’s being said, will pack a feature called “Edge Sense” that makes use of touch-sensitive sensors placed all over the phone, meaning you could practically operate it by squeezing it.

Although very innovative, this isn’t a fiercely new idea. Almost five years back, there were talks of a ‘Hold UI’ model from Japanese bearer NTT Docomo that banked on flaunting a similar functionality that is being talked of, here — it could start and close applications, perform voice searches and even unlock itself by slightly pressing it around the edges, with the intensity of the press deciding what is to be opened.

A top of the line HTC smartphone would surely be the most noticeable use of the thought yet, nonetheless.

Keeping your memory fresh in this context, the HTC U is supposed to have a 5.5-inch, 2560x1440p display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 12MP back and 16MP front cameras, and Android Nougat 7.1.

It’s time HTC stepped the game up, considering the lukewarm response its other phones are receiving. Maybe it isn’t the lack of innovation but absurdly high prices that it’s demanding.
