How To Remove App Names in iOS 18 For A Clean Home Screen Look

Apple just released iOS 18’s first public beta, and some users have already got their hands on the upcoming operating system that will ship with the iPhone 16 lineup. The new iOS version brings along several new features, some of which are aimed at making the operating system more customizable. While users can move around the place app icons anywhere they want, a hidden feature lets them remove app names and enlarge the icons. The result is a clean, futuristic home screen without any text. Here’s how you can try the feature yourself and see if you like the new look.

How To Hide App Name On iOS 18 (Based On Public Beta)

To hide the app names, you’d need access to iOS 18’s public beta, for which you need to register on beta.apple.com, and then head to Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates to look for the beta update. Once you download and install the iOS 18 public beta, you can go ahead and follow the steps given below.

  • Tap and hold on to an empty space on your home screen.

  • Select the Edit button at the top left and select the Customize option.

  • In the menu that appears at the bottom, select “Large.” As soon as you select the option, the app icons will grow in size, removing the names that are usually located at their bottom.

  • If you don’t like the icons’ appearance, you can always select the “Small” option in the menu to restore the original layout.

  • While we’re at it, you can also change the look of your app icons by switching to the “Dark” theme.

  • There’s a “Tinted” option that removes all the colors from the home screen except one, which becomes the predominant theme (like how Android matches the UI elements with the selected color via Material You). You can select the shade and its intensity using the two sliders at the bottom.
  • If you wish to switch between Light and Dark-themed app icons with time, you can select “Automatic.” It switches between the two modes based on the time of the day, similar to how scheduled dark mode works on iPhones.
