How to Disable Touchscreen Input on Your Android Phone

Imagine this: You hand your phone to a toddler to watch a video or simply want to watch a movie without accidental taps. Whatever the reason, there are times when you might need to disable the touchscreen on your Android device temporarily.

While Android doesn’t have a built-in feature for this, you can use a third-party app called Touch Lock, available on the Google Play Store. This app allows you to lock the touchscreen, making it perfect for situations where you want to prevent accidental touches. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Touch Lock to disable touchscreen input on your Android device.

Step-by-Step Guide to Disable Touchscreen Input on Android Devices

The Touch Lock app is available for free on the Google Play Store, but in-app purchases offer additional features and customization options. Here’s how to use Touch Lock:

1. Open the Google Play Store and install Touch Lock. 

2. Once the app is installed, tap on Open.

3. Upon opening the app, allow any permissions that are asked. Then, tap  Enable at the top, select “Touch Lock” from the list of apps, and turn on the toggle next to “Allow display over other apps.”

4. Now, go back to the Touch Lock app and tap on the SHOW button at the top. It will summon a lock button on your screen, floating around. You can move it anywhere on the screen. 

5. Tap the lock icon once, and the touchscreen will be disabled. You can now hand your phone to a toddler, watch a movie, or perform any task without worrying about accidental touches.

6. To re-enable the touchscreen, double-tap anywhere on the screen. The Touch Lock icon will reappear; double-tap on it to re-enable the touch screen.

7. Tap HIDE if you no longer want the lock to float on your screen.

Turn On Advanced Lock

If you want to lock the Quick Settings Panel, Navigation bar, Volume keys, or the back gestures, you need to use the Advanced Lock option. 

1. Open Touch Lock.

2. Turn on the toggle next to “Advanced Lock” and grant the required permissions. 

3. Tap  “Touch Lock” and turn on the toggle next to “Use Touch Lock.”

4. Now, when you enable the lock, you won’t be able to use the Volume keys or access the functions mentioned above.

Add a Custom Lock 

You can lock the touch for the whole screen or just parts of it. There are two options: full-screen lock and custom lock. Here’s how to use a custom lock:

1. Open Touch Lock.

2. Tap on the gear icon next to the SHUW button. 

3. Under Lock Screen Type, select Custom Lock.

4. Now, adjust the screen area you’d like to lock and tap “save.”

Enable a PIN Code to Unlock 

If a toddler might accidentally re-enables the touch screen, you can enable a PIN code for added security and reassurance. Here’s how:

1. Open Touch Lock.

2. Tap on the gear icon next to the SHOW button. 

3. Under Basic, turn on the toggle next to the PIN code to unlock the screen touch.

4. Once you enable the PIN code option, you will see a prompt to create a 4-digit PIN. Enter your desired PIN code, and re-enter it if asked.

5. Finally, tap Done.

If you forget your PIN code, you can try pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down button for 15 seconds to unlock the code and remove it. 

Touch Lock also allows you to configure specific colors and areas to lock. As you saw in the above section, you can lock half of the entire screen or some parts as you prefer. It is a versatile tool for various scenarios, such as watching videos, relaxing, or playing sports.
