Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series is one of the most popular WearOS watches on the market. The Galaxy Watch Classic series, though, has a separate fanbase due to its elegant design and, most prominently, the rotating bezel. We’re happy to report that Samsung is continuing the Classic series with the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra, but with a rather unique design.

The Galaxy Watch7 Ultra will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event. So far, details about the watch have been pretty scarce. But not anymore. Smartprix, in collaboration with @OnLeaks, presents to you the exclusive 5K renders of the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra. Let’s take a closer look.

Galaxy Watch7 Ultra Design Changes

The Galaxy Watch7 Ultra brings some interesting design changes to the table. Most prominently, it brings a squarish look, a third physical button, larger speakers, and some potential watch band charges. Let’s discuss them in detail.

1. Squarish Design

A quick glance at the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra renders reveals a squarish outer frame (or bezel) around the circular display. The shiny rotating bezel doesn’t seem to blend very well with the matte frame. This is an interesting design choice by Samsung, taking a departure from the traditional all-circular design.

This design choice is not as pronounced as the square design seen in Apple Watches, but it does give the Watch7 Ultra a more distinctive look. Despite this shift, the watch still maintains a rounded, circular display, ensuring that the core visual appeal remains familiar to long-time users and also that the UI doesn’t have to be reworked for a square display.

2. Display Size and Dimensions

The display itself measures approximately 1.5 inches in diameter, which is exactly the same as the Galaxy Watch6 Classic. The overall dimensions of the Watch7 Ultra are roughly 47 x 47.4 x 16.4 mm, making it slightly larger than the Watch6 Classic which measures 46.5 x  46.5 x 10.9 mm. This is due to the extra squarish bezel that’s being added around the circular display.

While we are not sure as to what the motive behind this extra squarish bezel is, it does make the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra bulkier than before. The rotating bezel, a beloved feature of the Galaxy Watch Classic series, is still present in the Watch7 Ultra. Speaking of which, the Watch7 Ultra bezel is marked with subtle lines (like a quartz watch) and minimalistic indicators, a departure from the numeric indicators found on the Watch6 Classic bezel.

3. A New Button

One exciting change is the addition of a third circular button in the middle on the right side of the watch. This new button, nestled between the traditional two, could offer new functionalities to the Galaxy Watch, similar to the Action Button on the Apple Watch Ultra.

4. New Health Sensor Array

A flip to the back reveals a new alignment of health sensors—they’re now a circular array of individual circles and squares, unlike the seamless ring of sensors found on the Galaxy Watch6 Classic. Notably, the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra retains the temperature sensor, but it has been shifted slightly upwards towards the center.

5. Watch Band Changes

The watch bands also appear to integrate more seamlessly with the watch body, offering a cleaner look. Furthermore, alongside the sensor array, there are two button-like elements at the top and the bottom. These could be for detaching the watch bands, a design shift from the previous Galaxy Watch6 Classic, where the buttons were on the watch bands themselves.

6. Larger Speaker Grills

Another subtle yet important design change is the addition of larger speaker grills. These grills are positioned to the left of the watch and are noticeably larger than those on the current Galaxy Watch models.

We also noticed a few tiny “holes” on the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra’s body, which we assume are microphones. Samsung seems to be going full-on with the mic and audio experience on the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy Watch 7 series will have a new chipsetcharge 50% faster than its predecessor, and may finally bring blood sugar monitoring. Expect Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Watch 7 series at its July 10th Unpacked event in Paris, France.

Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the Galaxy Unpacked event. Meanwhile, share your thoughts on the design of the Galaxy Watch7 Ultra in the comments below.
