Andy Rubins, the guy who made Android has now made a phone that he would want to use with it. Essential Phone, as he has named it, is a high-end smartphone that looks unique and is ready for a modular future. (हिंदी में पढ़ें)

The Essential Phone price starts at $699 (Roughly. 45,000 INR). It’s got Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Even when it’s quite compact, it fits in a 5.7-inch 2K+ resolution display that covers almost entire fascia, save for a blip for the 8MP front camera.

There are two 13MP cameras on the rear – one monochrome and one color, and these are flanked by dual tone flash and a set of two pogo pins that can be used to magnetically hinge modular accessories or for wireless charging of the handset.

A 360-degree camera that connects to Essential Phone and seamlessly replaces the rear camera will be available for purchase at launch for $50.

There is no branding whatsoever on the phone and it’s built of titanium, which unlike Aluminium used on today’s high-end phones (including Apple and Samsung ones), won’t bend, dent or scratch. The maker of Essential Phone claims that you won’t need to put it in a case. And it will be available in black, gray, white and blue colors.

Rubin says that the ideology behind Essential Phone is to create something that’s simple to use and that seamlessly connects all gadgets in your home. To demonstrate its expertise in this regard, the Ambient OS running Essential Phone will tag along Essential Home, a circular home assistant that also has a touchscreen.

All that talk about simplifying technology and yet the phone is missing the universal 3.5mm audio jack.
