If your Android phone isn’t charging and you are running out of juice, you are in the right place. In this guide, we’ll show you how can easily fix this issue and get back to charging your phone normally.
Whether it’s a faulty charger, a software glitch, or something else entirely, these 7 easy fixes will help you troubleshoot the issue and get back to full battery life in no time.
1. Check Charger and Cable
First and foremost, make sure that the charger that you are using is working properly. You can verify this by using the charger on a different device.
If the charger is fine, then check the cable. Inspect the cable for any damages. Try using a different charger to see if your phone is charging properly.
Use wireless charging if your phone supports it. If the wireless charging works, then there might be an issue with the charging port of your phone. Contact your manufacturer for further assistance.
Note: If your phone isn’t charging after water contact or submersion, visit your nearest service center for assistance.
2. Remove Phone Case
Sometimes, the phone case can trap heat and prevent the phone from charging. You might even see a message saying, “Charging on Hold.” Remove the phone case and try again.
3. Toggle Airplane Mode
Toggle Airplane mode to help your phone stay cool while it’s charging. Heat is the biggest culprit behind a phone that’s not charging. Toggling Airplane mode will temporarily turn off your phone’s wireless connections, including cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
In addition to perhaps allowing your phone to charge faster, this can also help conserve battery power. Follow the steps below to toggle Airplane mode.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to bring up the Quick Settings menu.
- From there, you can press on the Airplane Mode symbol to toggle it on or off.
- Turn off Airplane mode after the phone is fully charged.

4. Close Background Apps
Close any apps that might be running in the background to minimize the load on the phone’s internal components. And if you are okay with it, you can also power off your phone while it’s charging.
To close background apps, swipe up and hold from the bottom (press the recents button if you are using button navigation) and tap on “X” or Close all.
5. Restart Phone
If a software bug or glitch is preventing your phone from charging optimally, a restart should fix the issue. Follow the steps below.
- Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button simultaneously for a few seconds. Some Android phones may only need the Power button.
- Now, tap on Restart.

6. Try a Different Power Source

Try a different power source as well. If the power source that you are using is faulty or isn’t suitable for charging electronics, then your phone might not take the charge. Try using a different power outlet.
While you are at it, try using a power bank or a PC to charge your phone via USB and see if that works. This will help determine where the issue lies.

If your phone starts charging after connecting it to a power bank or a PC, then there might be an issue with the power outlet or the charger that you are using.
7. Avoid Using the Phone While Charging

Using your phone while it’s charging can generate heat and slow down the charging process. So, to charge your phone more efficiently, avoid using it during the charging period.
Set your phone aside and let it charge undisturbed for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, check back and see the battery status.
Contact Manufacturer Support
If the issue persists after trying all the solutions mentioned in this article, then there might be an underlying hardware issue with the device. In this case, you should either contact your manufacturer or visit the nearest service center for help. If your device is under warranty, you might even get a free repair or replacement.
