Details of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6-series 5G chipset leak online

The chipset giant Qualcomm is prepping to unveil a Snapdragon 6-series 5G application processor for entry-level phones. As of now, 5G modems are available only for mid-range and high-end smartphones.

The information comes from reliable tipster Digital Chat Stations who discloses the chipset model number as SM6350. The octa-core SoC is reportedly to feature two performance cores clocked at a frequency of 2.2GHz each and six power-efficient cores ticking at up to 1.8GHz.

The new Snapdragon 6 series gets Adreno 615 GPU clocked at 850MHz for graphic performance, said the source. The performance cores are most likely based on Cortex-A77 architecture. The Weibo post doesn’t suggest any possible date for the launch.

The developments related to 5G connectivity have been on a boom since the dawn of 2020. Major smartphone brands have already launched their 5G phones in the market. In the meantime, other chipset manufacturers including MediaTek and Huawei have also been working on low-end 5G chipsets.

While most telecommunication networks in India are yet not ready for 5G deployment, more 5G ready devices will give them more incentive and motivation for the transition.

Recently, Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon 768 5G mobile platform. The chipset lies in the mid-tier segment and claims to be over 20% efficient over its predecessor Snapdragon 765G chipset.
