The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) was launched in October 2023 by the Indian government as a successor of the Global NCAP organizations in charge of crash tests and safety ratings of cars sold in the country. Using this program, the consumers will be in a better position to make rational choices based on safety standards of different vehicles. To date, BNCAP has critiqued four SUVs from the Tata Motors company only. Here are the results of these tests:
1. Tata Nexon EV

The latest Tata’s product on the market is the Tata Nexon EV, which has recently embarked on a crash test conducted by BNCAP, bringing home a 5-star safety rating protection for both the adults and children. It scored 29.86 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection (AOP) and 44.95 out of 49 points measured for Child Occupant Protection (COP). The vehicles lacked euro ncap ratings for child occupant protection (COP) restraint features. Priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh, the Nexon EV is the prime rival of the Mahindra XUV400 and has an ARAI certified mileage of up to 465 kilometers.
2. Tata Punch EV

In the Nexon EV test, another Tata model, Tata Punch EV also received a 5-star rating for protection of the adult as well as child occupants. It scored 31.46 for AOP out of 32 and 45 out of 49 for COP. The Punch EV is available at Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh.
3. Tata Harrier

Another Tata car model known as Tata Harrier was tested for crash in December last year in BNCAP which accorded the vehicle the 5-star rating safety rating for both adults and children. It posted an AOP of 30.08 out of 32 & COP score: 44.54 out of 49. The Harrier sits in the price bracket of Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 26.44 lakh.
4. Tata Safari

Likewise, the Tata Safari too underwent the crash test in December and emerged as a superior vehicle by attaining 5-star BNCAP safety rating for both – the adult as well as the child occupants. It matched it with an AOP of 30.08 out of 32 the same rating as the Harrier and a COP score of 44.54 out of 49. The Safari costs approximately Rs 16.19 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh.
Investigations carried out by BNCAP reveal that SUVs imported by Tata Motors are among the safest vehicles since they are loaded with state-of-art security features that give protection to the occupants, both adults and children. These assessments are important to help consumers to investigate and avoid vehicles with safety issues.
