WhatsApp currently has more than 3 billion users with hundreds of millions of people accessing it every day. It is a must-have instant messaging service whether you are an individual or a business which makes it a critical asset. However, if you misuse the platform either directly or indirectly, your WhatsApp account could end up being banned. Yep, that’s an actual outcome in some cases where you will see the message “This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp” popping up.
So, what does this mean? Does it mean you won’t be able to use WhatsApp using that particular phone number ever again? Well, the answer is, it depends. Whether you or someone you know got the WhatsApp account banned, here’s how you can attempt to unban it.
Why does WhatsApp Ban your Number?
Before getting into the nitty-gritty of how you can check if your WhatsApp account is banned and how to unban it, you should know what gets it banned in the first place.
First up, violating the terms of services on WhatsApp can get your account banned. It includes sharing inappropriate or harmful content, promoting illegal activities, tagging your account on unofficial WhatsApp apps, etc. If you impersonate any person or entity distribute malicious links or carry out any kind of scam such as phishing, your WhatsApp account might be banned.
People sending out bulk messages, spamming other WhatsApp users, sending unsolicited messages, etc., will face the same fate. Additionally, if your WhatsApp is dormant (i.e. not used) for 120 days, that gets the account banned as well. If people file reports and block requests against your number multiple times in succession, WhatsApp might see this as a sign of fraudulent activity and thus, you might end up getting your WhatsApp account banned.
Temporary V/S Permanent Ban
If you aren’t familiar with it, WhatsApp has two types of banning mechanisms. The first is temporary and as the name suggests, you can get your account banned for said few days. On the other hand, sending out spam, putting other users at risk, scamming them, etc, could end up in a permanent ban which is very difficult to overturn.
How to Check if Your WhatsApp Account is Banned?
Although it is quite self-explanatory, there can be cases where people might not know if their account is banned or if is it just a software glitch. You might get messages such as “This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp” or “Your phone number is banned from using WhatsApp. Contact Support for help”, etc. If such a message appears on your account, chances are your WhatsApp account is banned. If true, the next section is for you.
