Answer: Owing to its big battery, the Zenfone Max is naturally chunky and heavy, but clever design on Asus part makes it feel a lot better in day to day handling than it is supposed to. The phone has a decent 70% percent screen-to-body ratio at the front and a premium looking plastic faux-leather back which is curves at the edges to ensure comfortable grip.
On the front, it looks more like Zenfone 5 than current generation Zenfone 2 and its siblings, but that’s not a bad thing.

Question: How is the build quality of Asus Zenfone Max?
Answer: The build quality of Zenfone Max is of top notch and it feels quite solid in hands.

Answer: Yes, Zenfone Max comes with capacitive keys. No, the keys are not backlit.
Question: How is the display of Asus Zenfone Max?
Answer: Asus has fitted a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touch-screen display with 1280 x 720 HD resolution and 267ppi pixel density. The Text and icons on the display are sharp enough for day to day usage. During multimedia consumption as well phone it managed to impress us with its rich and balanced colors, and wide viewing angles. ZenUI also allow users to tweak color settings as per personal preference. All said and done, Zenfone Max is using a good quality IPS LCD panel.

Answer: Asus Zenfone Max is a decent performer despite featuring a budget chipset. We have noticed no specific shortcoming as far as performance is concerned. IT handled all our day to day tasks pretty well without raising any alarm bells. We threw few benchmark tests and games like Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2 to put it under stress but it managed to handle everything without much trouble.

Question: Does Zenfone Max has heating issues?
Answer: As we mentioned above, we ran lots of benchmark tests and played a couple of graphic intensive games on our review unit but it managed to remain calm and its temperature didn’t skyrocket anywhere close to being uncomfortable for usage.
Question: How much RAM is free on first boot?
Answer: At the time of first boot, 885mb out of 2GB was available for usage.
Question: Does Asus Zenfone Max support Google cardboard and other VR gear?
Answer: No, gyroscope is missing, so VR capabilities will be limited. It is not compatible with Google Cardboard.
Question: How is the Zenfone Max camera performance?
Answer: Zenfone Max borrows the camera from Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. It features a 13MP camera at the back with fast laser auto-focus, f/2.0 aperture dual tone LED flash and blue glass filter. The primary camera works well in the well-lit locations. It impressed us with its ability to capture a decent amount of details in low-lighting condition with HDR turned on. The 5MP front camera is good enough to capture selfies for social media. In low light, Auto Mode the image quality isn’t anything to write home about. Answer: Yes, there is an option to enable (or disable) HDR mode in this phone.

However, we are not a great fan of unnecessary pre-loaded apps which offer nothing substantial in terms of user experience.
