January is going to be a great month for smartphone enthusiasts. While companies like Redmi and Vivo have already launched new models in India, others like Samsung and OnePlus will soon follow. Further, the Taiwanese company ASUS will join the party soon by dropping its ROG Phone 8 series globally.
ROG Phone 8’s Global Launch Date
In a post on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Asus revealed the launch date for its upcoming ROG Phone 8. The company will drop the smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 on January 8, 2024. Per Indian Standard Time, the launch occurs on January 9, 2024, at 04:30 AM.
The phone’s availibility in India should be revealed during the event. Those who want to watch the live stream can do so on ROG’s official YouTube channel.
Smartphone To Feature Edgeless Frame With Minimal Bezels
In the teaser video uploaded with the launch date, Asus showcased the phone’s front screen with minimal bezels, which the company refers to as “Edgeless Frame.” Recently, we’ve also seen some leaked renders of the phone revealing the polygon-shaped rear camera housing with three sensors and the LED flash. The back panel also features an ROG logo that lights up with RGB lights.
ROG Phone 8 Leaked Specifications
Regarding specifications, the smartphone is said to come with a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz. Under the hood, the gaming smartphone should run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Regarding battery, the handset is rumored to feature a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 65W fast wired charging.
Out of the box, the ROG Phone 8 should run on a custom user interface based on Android 14. Regarding optics, the phone should come with a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary camera, a 13MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto sensor for shooting 3x optical images. Other smartphone features include an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.3, and a USB-C port.
