Back in August, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple unveiled its new MacBook Pro models. Powered by the M4 Pro and the M4 Max chipsets, the MacBook Pros offer exceptional CPU and GPU prowess for professionals. However, Apple isn’t going to stop there. Next year, the company aims to start manufacturing the M5 series of chipsets, the higher variants of which are said to include “server-grade” design.

Apple’s M5 Chip To Enter Mass Production By 2025’s First Half

Renowned Apple tipster and supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple’s M5 chip will enter mass production next year (most likely in the first half of 2025). Following the M5 chip, the M5 Pro and the M5 Max will also enter fabrication by the second half of 2025 and early 2026, respectively.
While the vanilla M5 chip (based on TSMC’s N3P node) could result in a 5% improvement in performance and up to 10% reduction in power consumption (compared to the M4 chip), there’s more in store the M5 Pro and the M5 Ultra chipsets.

The M5 Pro And M5 Ultra Will Be The Main Center Of Attraction

According to Kuo, Apple could equip the M5 Pro and the M5 Ultra chipsets with a “server-grade” integrated chips molding design. In simpler words, the chipsets will feature several circuits integrated into one big circuit (with chips arranged horizontally). While the new design could take much less space (30 to 50%) than the one used on the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, it could also improve heat dissipation.
Until now, Apple has designed the M series chips in such a manner that the CPU and GPU are all packaged in one chipset. However, with the M5 series, the CPU and the GPU could have a different module, leading to better optimization and performance from both components.

iPhone Could Benefit From A New CPU/GPU Design

Some reports also claim that even the iPhone models could benefit from the CPU and GPU separation. However, whether the A series chips will adopt the separate CPU/GPU design or Apple plans to use the M series chips on its iPhones is something that we’re yet to find out.
Most recently, Apple launched new MacBook Pro models in India, which feature the M4 Pro and the M4 Max chipsets. In 2025, the company is expected to unveil quite a lot of devices, including the iPhone 16e or the iPhone SE 4, along with the most-awaited iPhone 17 series with the iPhone 17 Air model.
