TL;DR

  • Most recently, Apple executives clarified that they’ll follow a phased approach to the rollout of Apple Intelligence.
  • According to Gurman, Apple might release some upgrades for Siri over the next couple of months.
  • However, the completely revamped version of the voice assistant (which the company showcased earlier this year) won’t be available until a few months after the iPhone 17 arrives.

It’s been two months since the iPhone 16 (review) came out, and yet, somehow, buyers only have access to a few Apple Intelligence features. With iOS 18.1, the Cupertino giant released a couple of AI-infused features like Writing Tools, but things like Visual Intelligence or ChatGPT integration aren’t available (yet). This is ironic, given that all the features were showcased at the iPhone 16 launch event (and before that as well).

On-Screen Awareness For Siri Isn’t Coming Anytime Soon

Apple iPhone 16 Pro Review with Pros Cons & verdict - Smartprix.com-11

Most recently, Apple executives clarified that they’ll follow a phased approach to the rollout of Apple Intelligence. In other words, the company will push batches of upgrades to supported iPhones over due course, with some new features in each batch. While that wasn’t promising in itself, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now reports that the revamped Siri won’t be available until 2026.

According to Gurman, Apple might release some upgrades for Siri over the next couple of months. However, the completely revamped version of the voice assistant (which the company showcased earlier this year) won’t be available until a few months after the iPhone 17 arrives. We’re talking about on-screen awareness that’ll give Siri the ability to interact with apps.

iOS 18.2 To Add A Couple Of New Apple Intelligence Features

The silver lining on this cloud happens to be the ChatGPT infusion that is coming later this year (or at least we hope it is). A press release mentions that “users will have the option to access ChatGPT’s broad world knowledge without Writing Tools and Siri, allowing them to benefit from its image- and document-understanding capabilities without needing to jump between tools.”

Even though a ChatGPT-integrated Siri is a big thing, it’s a tad disappointing that iPhone 16 users won’t be able to use the upgraded version of Siri, in all its glory, until a few months after iPhone 17 comes out. Meanwhile, features like Genmoji, Image Playground, Image Wand, improved Writing Tools (with ChatGPT-integration), and Visual Intelligence are slated to arrive in December with iOS 18.2’s table update.
