Google I/O 2024 lacks concrete announcements about Android 15. Luckily, the search engine giant hasn’t forgotten its major product. Earlier today, Google released Android 15 Beta 2 to Pixel users and beta testers. Rolling out for Pixel 6 and above, the Android 15 Beta 2 takes the stability a level up keeping privacy and safety of the user at paramount.

Luckily, it isn’t limited to Pixel devices since Android 15 Beta can be installed on a host of devices joined up for the Android 15 beta program. It includes flagships, foldables, and tablets from OnePlus, Sharp, Tecno, Vivo, Xiaomi, Nothing, Lenovo, iQOO, Oppo, Honor, and Realme.

You can sign up for beta on your Pixel devices by tapping this link. You need to bear in mind that this isn’t a stable update and thus, some of the bugs are still intact and need ironing. For instance, you might feel the beta is consuming a lot of battery life than usual but that’s normal. Additionally, you can opt out of the beta program but that also means you will have to wipe all the data stored on your phone. The stable version is slated to arrive in October this year.

Android 15 Beta 2 Introduces Private Space

It’s only natural that you’d ask what this Android 15 Beta 2 brings to the table. First up, it is an incremental update over Beta 1. It has Private Space, a feature that lets you store sensitive apps such as banking and investments with an added layer of authentication. Although this feature is already available in a couple of Android phones, it now gets native support.

For those using Private Space, the app won’t show up in settings, recent view, or even launcher. There won’t be any notifications as if you never had that app. Instead, your phone will create a partition safeguarding that particular app and the data it has keeping it away from prying eyes.

Another update Android 15 Beta 2 brings to the table is the ability to not allow malicious apps to operate in the background. Multitasking on larger screens such as foldable phones has gotten much easier and customizable. There’s ‘Predictive Back’, a feature that lets you predict what screen you are backing up to save you from any surprise or embarrassment.
