Amazon Alexa Voice Assistant Can Now Also Speak Hindi and Hinglish

Amazon’s AI-based Alexa voice assistant can now respond to your queries made in Hindi and Hinglish. Amazon has officially announced support for Hindi in its Alexa virtual assistant at its Voxcon event in national capital New Delhi.

Alexa is now second voice assistant to understand and respond in Hindi and Hinglish (the first being Google Assistant). The support of Indic language is going to be as close to only 10% (1.4 billion) Indian know English.

Amazon’s Alexa uses machine learning and deep learning models to overcome contextual, cultural, and dialect challenges. The learnings allow Alexa to understand and respond to voice-based queries with relevant replies.

To switch Alexa language from English to Hindi one can go to Alexa app, then proceed to devise settings and then change the language to Hindi from English.

Alexa now take various commands in Hindi including “Bollywood ke latest gane sunao”, “cricket score batao”, “sher ki aawaaz sunao”, “Alexa, apne baare mei batao and lot more.

Apart from Amazon devices, Alexa in Hindi is also available on Bose and some other Amazon partner devices. Amazon is also working on developing Amazon Skill in Hindi and currently, there are 500 third-party Alexa skills from over 30 brands in Hindi. Some prominent Hindi skills are  Ola, ChuChu TV, All India Radio, RedFM, and Amar Chitra Katha.

During the media event, Amazon mentioned that they are working on more Indic languages however didn’t reveal any timeline. Currently, there are several Amazon Alexa devices available in the Indian market including Echo smart speakers line-up and smart display.

The company also sells devices like Echo Input, Echo Sub, Echo Link, and Echo Link Amp. As mentioned, several brands apart from Amazon also offer smart speakers and smart displays powered by Alexa voice assistant.
