Funtouch OS 15 has arrived, and while vivo users may notice it, the latest updates didn’t make much noise in reviews. Surprisingly, even major reviewers skimmed over the small but impactful tweaks throughout the UI. So if you’re wondering whether Funtouch OS 15 is a notable update or not, here’s a breakdown of everything new—from icon redesigns to system refinements.
1. Media Player & Control Center Changes
The media player now has a sleeker, more compact design with a narrower layout and smaller play/pause buttons—not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Control Center received a refresh with reworked icons, improved contrast in dark mode, and a smoother drop animation. The brightness slider and the icons below are now smaller, which makes it harder to adjust or tap.
2. Notifications
Notifications are now more compressed and stay on the flat part of the display rather than curving, giving a cleaner look. However, the tighter line spacing can make them appear somewhat cramped.
3. New & Fixed Icons
Icon design has been fixed, with dark mode issues resolved for popular apps like YouTube and Gmail.
System-wide, icons have been revamped, from the settings app to Gallery, offering a more cohesive look across the interface.
4. New Toggle Design with Haptics
Toggles throughout Funtouch OS 15 now include haptic feedback, adding a tactile response when toggling settings. The toggle design is refreshed across the interface, including on the camera app.
5. Better Lock Screen
The lock screen clock is larger and displays the date and day in bigger text above it. There’s also a new locked indicator, adding both style and functionality.
6. Three New Clock Widgets
Three new clock widgets make their debut, which looks very nice to me. These three widgets and the other previous ones now support opening and closing animations. Unfortunately, most third-party widgets still lack animations though.
7. Home Screen Edit Menu Redesign
The home screen edit menu has been reworked with a bottom navigation bar and placeholders for app icons. The widget delete button is gone, so you’ll need to tap and hold widgets to remove them, similar to managing apps.
8. Settings App Overhaul
The settings app has had an extensive reorganization with better descriptions and new groupings, making navigation easier and more intuitive.
Icons and toggle designs have been updated here as well, while key sections like System and Google settings are now better organized.
9. Theme & Icon Customization
Funtouch OS 15 brings several new theme presets and customization options for icons. You can finally hide icon labels, and the icon customization feature now has a better layout. There’s also a new icon pack called “Exquisite” alongside the several preset themes.
10. Albums & Screenshot Improvements
Screenshots now open directly in S-Capture for editing when you tap on it. You also have the option to delete screenshots automatically after you’re done editing them.
The Albums app also benefits from simpler icons and a more refined video editing interface, with export in original quality now off by default.
The delete, share, and restore buttons are now more refined and placed at the bottom for easier access. Documents has been updated to Super Documents. It adds the ability to remove shadows and upscale document quality.
Oh, you can finally tap on hold on a subject in the Albums app to create a cutout.
11. App Drawer
The app drawer has been updated with a redesigned search bar, larger alphabet markers on the right, and a new sort icon in the top-right corner.
12. Dialer Updates
In the dialer app, the labels for adding or editing contacts have been redesigned, with better text scaling for clearer contact info display.
13. New UI for Confirmation Messages & Selection Menus
Confirmation pop-ups, like delete/cancel prompts, have been redesigned. Selection menus are also revamped for consistency across the OS, including the camera app and other frequently used tools. The corners are also more rounded now.
14. Advanced Screen Recording Options
Screen recording has new features, including doodling options and the ability to turn the mic or system sound on/off while recording. You still can’t record the lock screen, though.
15. Always-On Display and Status Bar Tweaks
The Always-On Display received a visual upgrade with larger styles. However, I wish it was seamless with the lock screen. The status bar is slightly lower now, aligning better with the punch hole.
Miscellaneous
Funtouch OS 15 also brings the following changes/improvements:
- Circle to Search
- Gaussian blur when opening and closing applications
- New update screen
- Haptic feedback when pressing and holding an app on the home screen
- Redesigned recorder app with separate tabs for recordings and call recordings
- Redesigned clock app
- Larger app icons in the recents page
Conclusion
Funtouch OS 15 brings numerous refinements and new features to improve vivo’s user experience. With this update, the company has begun addressing the top issue with its software—the ancient-looking design. While I still think the UI needs significant modernization, Funtouch OS 15 is a major step forward in that direction. What do you think of Funtouch OS 15? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
