Sony Ericsson Satio review: Shooter by vocation

Sony Ericsson need a winner right now and the Satio is the phone carrying the torch. It's equipped with a 12-megapixel camera, which puts it in an elite club. It failed to become the founding member of the club - that title goes to the Samsung Pixon12 - but the Satio offers a level of extra versatility available only on smartphones.

The Satio runs on the same "engine" as the iPhone 3GS, Omnia HD, Palm Pre and Nokia N900 - an ARM Cortex A8 CPU running at 600MHz along with a PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator.read more →
  • 3.5" 16M-color resistive touchscreen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution
  • 12 megapixel state-of-the-art autofocus camera
  • LED and xenon flash, active lens cover
  • VGA@30fps video recording
  • Symbian OS 9.4 with S60 5th edition UI, spiced up with a home-brewed homescreen and media menu
  • ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz CPU, PowerVR SGX dedicated graphics accelerator and 256 MB of RAM
  • Xenon flash is not adequately powerful
  • The S60 5th edition UI isn't to the best in class standards
  • No 3.5mm audio jack or a standard USB port
  • No DivX or XviD support out-of-the-box
  • No smart or voice dialing
  • Playing flash videos in the browser easily depletes the available RAM

Sony Ericsson Satio vs. Samsung Pixon12: 12MP shootout

Having put the cameras to so many tests, we can safely conclude that the Pixon12 beats the Satio in terms of image quality. The output is better in the elements that we consider most important for producing better shots in real life scenarios.

The Sony Ericsson Satio has a better looking camera and gallery interface, a superior BestPic burst shooting mode, an active lens cover and a hardware key to toggle stills, video and gallery. It also takes an edge in the video recording department.read more →

Sony Ericsson Satio (Idou) preview: First look

Our brief experience with Sony Ericsson Satio left us happy and waiting for more - we really hope to get a second glimpse of it in a more detailed review once it hits the market. Our first impressions are downright positive and competitors will have to go to extra lengths for a shot at beating it.

However, there are at least 4 months to go before the Satio is actually retail ready.read more →

Is the 12.1MP behemoth worthy of the year-long hype?

The Satio is a good phone, there's no doubt about that. The sheer amount of technology under the hood is testament to a good design team, and we can see a lot of photography lovers seeing it as their must-have phone.

However, the amount of little problems (as well as the big ones, like a poor touchscreen at times and no 3.5mm headphone jack) all add up quickly, and it's a shame as we wanted to Satio to be one of the biggest devices of the year.read more →

Sony Ericsson Satio Review

Having told you what Sony Ericsson’s first 12-megapixel, all-in-one, Symbian S60 5th Edition based handset is all about, it’s time we passed our verdict. The only advantages of the Satio over its rivals are the almost impeccable in-call quality and splendid night shots. As a whole, the handset takes on the job of being a decent camera phone pretty well, but its arch-rival, the Samsung Pixon12 performs better.read more →
  • The second cell phone with 12MP camera
  • Great night snapshots
  • Extremely good in-call quality
  • Outdoor pictures could have been better
  • Unjustified price tag
  • Sluggish operational speed
  • No 3.5mm jack
  • Doesn’t support DivX and/or Xvid files
