LG Optimus Black review: Black and bright
The LG Optimus Black is not the brightest bulb in the LG Android portfolio. Fair enough, it has no problem with authority. It claims to have the brightest screen on a phone to date, and thats a good enough selling point.
Feature-wise, its nothing spectacular but we knew all the way the Optimus Black wasnt getting the premium flagship treatment. Its the same package that Samsung offered a year ago with the original Galaxy S.read more →

- 9.2 mm slim touchscreen bar
- 4 NOVA display at 700 nits of brightness, 16M-color WVGA capacitive IPS LCD unit
- Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
- 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- Android OS v2.2 Froyo (upgradable to v2.3) with LG Home launcher 2.0 and Gesture UI 2.0
- TI OMAP 3630 1GHz processor
- HD video clips come out with distorted aspect ratio
- Single core processor when most of the high-end has gone dual-core
- The blacks of the NOVA display are not deep enough to impress
- No dedicated camera key
- No Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch
- Disappointing audio quality
LG Optimus Black display shootout: NOVA on trial
Time for a verdict on the new display the 4 NOVA display of the LG Optimus Black P970. As far as LCD displays go, its easily among the best its brightness is unmatched and the other characteristics are very good as well.
Still, the NOVA display is very thin and that has allowed LG to slim the Optimus Black down to just 9.2mm of thickness. The high brightness makes it a great choice for outdoor viewing too and the popping colors are second only to a SuperAMOLED screen.read more →

Super thin, feather-light - but can it rival the new dual-core brigade?
If you're both a fan of the black bar aesthetic that seems to be the current go-to design of smartphones, and a fan of lightweight machinery that does exactly what it ought to, then the LG Optimus Black will suit you great.
While its only truly outstanding feature is the NOVA display screen, it performs well enough in other areas to stand as a competitor to the Apple iPhone 4 for those who prefer Android phones.read more →

- NOVA display
- 4-inch screen
- Thin and lightweight chassis
- Quick to navigate
- 2MP front-facing camera
- Gesture UI is fun but mainly pointless
- Not latest software
- Casing is a little roughly hewn
- Disappointing video recording capability
- Occasional microSD card problems
LG Optimus Black Review
Тhe LG Optimus Black is a decent smartphone that stands out with its wonderful 4-inch NOVA display and its slim waistline of 9.2 millimeters – features that the manufacturer has put most of its efforts into. It can be the perfect device for you if you do not insist on having the latest, most powerful, dual-core boasting smartphone on the market, but rather prefer using a slim Android device that will be a pleasure to look at and at the same time prove to be quite capable.read more →
- The brightest display on a smartphone today
- Very slim profile
- Excellent sound quality
- Offers weak hardware for its price range
- Comes with Froyo instead of Gingerbread
LG Optimus Black Preview
To recap our experience with the LG Optimus Black we will once again rehash that, for a handset with a 4” display, it almost feels like a toy with this incredibly thin and light chassis. The all-plastic construction seems to be inevitable, if you want to achieve that feeling, but the design is far from unappealing, thanks to the tapered edges on the back, the slim profile, and the disco-dancing capacitive buttons below the display.read more →
