Samsung Galaxy R vs. LG Optimus 2X: Affordable dual-cores

The LG Optimus 2X was a flagship in its heyday while the Samsung I9103 Galaxy R was simply meant as a more affordable version of the Galaxy S II. Nearly half a year sets the two apart, but they demonstrated very similar performance in our quick shootout.

The biggest differentiating factor between the two seems to be TV-Out - if you want to pair your phone with the TV, the LG Optimus 2X offers FullHD playback over HDMI with mirroring, whereas the Galaxy R has only the wireless DLNA option (also available on the 2X).read more →
  • Better still camera: 8MP vs. 5MP
  • Better video camera: 1080p vs. 720p
  • HDMI TV-Out (with cable in the box) over no TV-Out at all

HTC Sensation vs. Galaxy S II vs. Optimus 2X: Head to head

Well, we're sure you've already picked your favorite, but we'll have a few of our usual parting words anyway.

The HTC Sensation is a very good phone all round and the tests we ran gave us no reason to doubt it. But it's by no means perfect. The death grip issue is one thing (check our our two tests), but the battery life failed to impress too when it came to web browsing.read more →

Galaxy S II vs. Galaxy S Plus vs. Optimus 2X: Head to head revisited

All three droids performed admirably in our tests and they helped us make two things clear  you cant beat the performance of modern dual-core CPUs by just overclocking an old chipset. On the other hand, an overclocked single-core chipset is powerful enough for almost everyone.

Not that it cant learn a thing or two from the LG Optimus 2X  especially when it came to graphics (in benchmarks anyway) and reliable GPS performance.read more →

Samsung Galaxy S II vs LG Optimus 2X: Head to head

Well this is it. Our comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the LG Optimus 2X is over. We had a lot of fun with both, and were actually sad to finally get to the end. That exciting feeling of the unknown before every test, the anticipation of the results  we gadget geeks live for that stuff.

The Samsung Galaxy S II feels like the top dog in this head-to-head. It has the upper hand with the SuperAMOLED display, the amount of available RAM, and the still and video camera.read more →

LG Optimus 2X review: Double the potential

Year 2010 wasn't particularly good for the LG mobile department. The Korean company entered it as one of the fastest growing in business and the announcements of the GT540 Optimus and GW990 in January made things seem rosy, but it was mostly downhill from there. A series of devices that failed to achieve their sales targets and the cancellation of the GW990 almost got us worried that LG will be relegated to the role of a runner up in the mobile phone industry.

The device is definitely the smartphone to get right now and will most certainly remain so for at least another month or two.read more →
