Worst experience ever!
3rd Update... ( 13th May, 2018 ) WiFi Issues Continues It's abundantly clear that the laptop has WiFi issues. I think either the WiFi radio has issues, or the placement of the WiFi radio is very poor. Either ways... the laptop randomly looses the connection, for no reason. I can't do anything, but to turn-off the WiFi connection, turn it back up and just wait. Even turning off and on, takes lot of time. OEM Hard Disk's Dell has enforced and created few disk partitions. You can't change them. But they get filled up to 97-98% and Window keeps complaining. And worst the OS keeps writing something and CPU and Hard-Disk consumptions are very high. That also makes the system slow. Battery Life : Very Poor Even with very light browsing, the battery drains. Mostly for mentioned hardware issues. Overall, very poor value for money. 2nd Update... I had to spend about 1.5 - 2 hours every day with Dell support, that too they work only till 6 PM for troubleshooting. They were courteous, but they were trying very hard to indicate that it's not an hardware problem. They make me run lot of diagnostics. It reported no hardware problem. But still I had ton of issues with WiFi and Trackpad and whole laptop was dead slow. Utilization ( task manager ) was way too high on Disk and Memory, even when nothing was running. One evening, they said - all updates are done. Dell tried to softly frighten me... "there is no hardware problem. if you still have issues we will have reinstall the whole operating system - windows 10 - and that may take 8 hours". I told them I'd observe and come back. Again, faced tons of issues. Send lot of screen shots to Dell and Flipkart support. Dell agreed it was an hardware problem and sent a replacement laptop ! Meanwhile, flipkart support ( couple of them ) were acting rude - they just wanted to close the ticket ! Nothing more. Finally, when I got the replacement laptop, I ran all updates from Microsoft and Dell even before I could use the laptop. WiFi issues are gone. Trackpad by design is very pathetic. Don't expect much out of this. To summarize - This has been worst experience for me with Dell. And I didn't expect this from Flipkart. Windows 10 by design is very very poor and minimum 8GB is needed. First Update... I bought this laptop for my daughter, but it's been an harrowing experience with this laptop ! Shipping - No issues with it, it arrived safely. Build Quality - Very poor. Its' very cheap plastic and when you hold the laptop, it opens up and it's not sturdy but very heavy. Ergonomics - Very very poor. The trackpad ( more on this later ) is positioned at an awkward place, that hands starts paining as your right hand has to be across to your left hand to swipe and to navigate. The whole laptop is very poor on ergonomics. Hardware - Since the 1st boot, I have been having hardware issues... 1) Overheating - vents are spewing hot air, even when no applications are running 2) CPU/Memory consumption on Task Manager show extremely high, again even when nothing is run by my me or installed ! 3) WiFi Disconnects - It's been hell of an issue. It would stay connected for 2-4 minutes. Disconnect. Sometimes it'd come back to connect, most often it wouldn't. And event-viewer has FULL of errors pointer to 'failed hardware' 4) Track Pad - This is one of the worst track-pads I've ever used. It'd panic and move the cursor automatically to some random place. Sometimes it won't respond when you're swiping Performance - Very very very bad. The system is so slow. In addition to the hardware issues, the operating system ( Windows 10 ) with 6GB of RAM is so slow Crashes - After my 1st boot and updates of Windows... my system crashes at random intervals. You open Windows Explorer - Crash, close Chrome Browser - Crash, right-click on desktop - crash ! Flipkart Support - With these issues starting on the 1st day I received the "brand new" laptop, I contacted FK support. One guy pushed me and was rude trying to blame me for the performance and issues of the laptop ! He'd not listen, but kept talking rude. After my complaints in Email & Twitter, that changed for good. Dell Support - Dell is refusing to agree that this laptop has hardware issues. They call you at peak hours, expect you to pick up immediately and be available with the laptop to troubleshoot ( remotely ) but for hours ! They bank on their software to detect hardware issues. They don't detect or correlate to Windows logs and events which report errors. They again and again try to wash off their hands that it's a hardware issue. One support person tried to wash me off by saying... we have tried everything, there is no issue with the hardware. But if you still have issues, we have to do a full OS reinstall and that may take 6-hours. From day #1 after I got the laptop, I have beens spending 2-5 hours per day to just troubleshoot - that on a 'brand new laptop' ! As I write this, my ordeal is not over. Will update back.
