The next iteration of dual screen Yota smartphone, the Yota Phone 3, is now official. The Russia made smartphone will initially retail in China as Yota3 and the global roll out is expected to follow soon.

Why Yota Phone 3 is special?

If you aren’t familiar with Yota phone concept, these are dual screen devices with a regular display on the front and an extra e-ink display on the rear.

The thing with e-ink displays is that they are glare free and extremely light on eyes, and thus best suited for reading purposes (same displays that are used on e-book readers like Kindle). We, for one, believe it’s a great concept.

Yota Phone 3 Features

  • The new Yota Phone 3 has a 5.5-inch Full-HD AMOLED display on the front and a 5.2-inch e-ink display on the rear, each with its own set of capacitive keys.
  • The hardware used is quite assuring. Yota Phone 3 is powered by 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 mobile platform paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage.
  • The Yota OS 3.0 running on the phone is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat
  • For photography, there is a 12MP rear camera that shoots 4K videos and a 13MP front camera.
  • The phone is missing the regular 3.5mm jack, space obviously being a constraint here. You will have to rely on USB Type-C audio.

Yota Phone 3 Price and Availability in India

The Yota Phone 3 costs $350 or roughly Rs. 22,500 for the 64GB variant and $450 or roughly Rs. 29,000 for the 128GB model. Initially, it will be available in China from JD.COM. You can pre-order it starting September 5 and the phone will ship starting September 18.

Since Yota Phone 2 never made it to India, chances of this making it across the border are slim at best.
