We recently shared the leaked specs of Xiaomi’s first Android Go Smartphone. Today Redmi Go has debuted officially. Redmi, a sub-brand of Xiaomi, still hasn’t revealed a few details. Before proceeding, you may note that the phone caters to a specific section of the audience who are looking for ultra-affordable phones, even if that means some compromises in user experience.

Redmi Go Features

The highlight of the Redmi Go would be Google’s Android Go (8.1 Oreo Edition) software. Android Go is a trimmed down version of Stock Android that’s specifically optimized for its low-end hardware. Redmi Go features an ecosystem of Go series of apps downloadable from the Play store. They are the “lite” version of Google’s popular apps meant to run on low-end devices.

Needless to say, this new Redmi phone won’t be flaunting any bells or whistles. Redmi Go would sport a 5-inch HD display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. You could do photography with an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The rear camera is coupled with an LED flash.

Though Xiaomi’s tweet doesn’t share the exact processor specification. The previous leak had hinted at 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-core 425 chipset. This is an optimized entry-level SOC for mid-tier smartphones. Heeding to the previous leak, we expect the gaming and other graphics to be rendered by Qualcomm Adreno 308.

From the above official spec sheet, we also know that the phone would be fueled by a 3000mAh battery. This could deliver sufficient juice, thanks to the optimized software and low-power hungry hardware combo.

Redmi Go Price and Availability

As expected out of an Android Go phone, this one also comes at a low-rung price tag. The Xiaomi Redmi Go will go on sale in February at a price of €80 in Europe. Philipines pricing is yet to be confirmed as well as availability in other markets. And we don’t have any update on Indian pricing.
