Xiaomi is known for surprising market pundits with their bold smart devices and their announcements. This time too did something unprecedented. In a surprising move, the company did a back flip on Redmi 3 launch date and has gone official with the phone in China a day prior to the scheduled date.

The Redmi3 is an upgraded version of Redmi 2 (or Redmi 2 Prime) and will be the flag bearer for its very popular ultra-affordable series. Redmi 3 wears an all metal exterior with a textured back panel. However, the most talked about feature on Redmi 3 is its battery. The phone features a whopping 4100mAh battery which is appreciable since Xiaomi has managed to restrict its belly to 8.5 millimeters.

The smartphone sports a 5-inch display with a resolution 1280 x720 pixels and underneath which enthralls a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 octa-core chipset, teamed with 2G LPDDR3 RAM. This 3rd generation Redmi phone comes with a hybrid dual SIM card slot in which the second slot can be treated a microSD slot. The phone gets 16 GB onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB at the expense of that second SIM.
