Xiaomi Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G made their debut in India on August 1. Its first-ever sale began on August 4 when the Chinese tech juggernaut sold 300,000 units with a sales amount of INR 3 billion. Cut to now as we enter the month of September, Redmi 12 has reached another milestone. It has successfully sold 1 million units in India in just a month’s time.

Yep, Xiaomi sold 1 million units of Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G combined and took it to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the same. The company didn’t specify which model received more response though so we are left scratching our hands to figure out which made the top sales. I would name the 5G variant as the top-seller given its chipset aka Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 based on a 4nm node which is first for India while the 4G variant picked up a rather commonly available chipset – Helio G88.

Xiaomi Redmi 12 4G is priced at INR 9,999/- for its entry-level 4GB+128GB variant while the higher 6GB+128GB is available at INR 11,499/-. On the 5G end, the 4GB+128GB variant is priced at INR 13,499/- while the higher 6GB+128GB is available at INR 15,499/-. You can purchase either of the models from Flipkart.com, Mi.com, Mi Studio, Mi Home, or any of the retail partners.

Xiaomi Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G Specifications

Xiaomi Redmi 12 (both 4G and 5G) have similar specifications. It includes a 6.79” IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. There’s an 8MP front camera on both while the rear camera assembly includes a 50MP primary plus a 2MP depth sensor. Here, Redmi 12 4G has an 8MP ultrawide snapper as an addition to the Redmi 12 5G.

The phone gets a 5,000mAh battery paired with 18W wired charging. Up to 256GB of storage with 8GB RAM although the configurations for the middle tier are a bit different. The storage system used is different too i.e. eMMC 5.1 on the 4G model while the 5G one takes UFS 2.2.

The only major difference is with the chipset. Redmi 12 4G sticks to a usual MediaTek Helio G88 SoC made on a 12nm node. On the other hand, Redmi 12 5G picks up India’s first-ever Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC made on a 4nm node which is why I would like this model to pick up more sales.
