Xiaomi Is Bringing Mijia to India: Here’s What the New Home and Lifestyle Brand Means for You

TL; DR
  • Xiaomi India has officially confirmed Mijia as a dedicated home and lifestyle sub-brand, joining Redmi, POCO, and Xiaomi under one umbrella
  • Mijia was originally launched in China back in 2016, and the name translates to “Xiaomi Smart Home”
  • Expect air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, ACs, coffee machines, and other smart home tools under the new branding
  • The move comes as Xiaomi marks 12 years in India and doubles down on its “Human x Car x Home” strategy

Xiaomi’s India lineup is about to get a fourth pillar. Sandeep Sarma, Associate Director of Marketing and PR at Xiaomi India, has officially confirmed on X that the company is introducing Mijia as its dedicated home and lifestyle sub-brand in the country, sitting alongside Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO.

Sarma noted that Xiaomi spent the first half of this year focused on the “Human” side of its ecosystem, and is now prepping to go deeper on the “Home” side, a fairly direct confirmation that this rollout is imminent rather than a distant roadmap item.

If the name sounds unfamiliar, that’s because Mijia has, until now, largely stayed a China-first brand. Xiaomi set it up back in 2016 as a specialised home ecosystem label, and the name itself is a portmanteau, derived from “Mi” and “Jia” (home), which roughly translates to “Xiaomi Smart Home.”

Globally, Mijia already spans close to 200 product categories, everything from electric toothbrushes and weighing scales to air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, and smart kitchen appliances.

For India, so far, Mijia products sold locally have simply been folded into the broader Xiaomi or Mi branding. Splitting it out into its own identity gives the company room to push a lot more of that 200-category catalogue into the country without diluting the smartphone-first Xiaomi brand or the value-focused Redmi and POCO lines.

What to Expect

The initial Mijia India push should include smart air purifiers, robot and handheld vacuum cleaners, tool kits, air conditioners, and coffee machines, essentially the large-appliance and lifestyle-gadget categories Xiaomi has already been testing the waters with in India through smart TVs and air purifiers sold under the Xiaomi name.

This also slots neatly into Xiaomi’s broader “Human x Car x Home” strategy, the same framework the company has been using globally (and with its EVs in China) to tie smartphones, vehicles, and home devices into one connected ecosystem. Home has so far been the weakest link of that triangle in India, and Mijia is clearly meant to fix that.

This isn’t coming out of nowhere either. Back in March, we exclusively reported that Xiaomi was gearing up for its most ambitious home push yet in India, citing industry insider Yogesh Brar. That report named smart ACs with HyperOS and AI-sensing tech, multi-door and cross-door smart refrigerators, and reworked air purifiers and TVs as the categories in the pipeline, all of which are undergoing local testing and certification for Indian power and climate conditions at the time, with a second-half-2026 launch window tied to the festive season. Sarma’s confirmation essentially validates that report and puts a name, Mijia, to the strategy it described.

In Xiaomi’s Own Words

Marking the company’s 12-year milestone in India, Sudhin Mathur, Chief Operating Officer of Xiaomi India, said:

“Over the past 12 years, Xiaomi has continuously evolved alongside Indian consumers, expanding from smartphones into a broader consumer technology portfolio. The introduction of Mijia by Xiaomi marks an important milestone in strengthening the home dimension of our global Human x Car x Home strategy in India, and reflects our long-term commitment to the market. As we deepen our presence in the category, our focus is on making the connected ecosystem more intelligent, intuitive, and seamless, bringing Xiaomi’s global smart living experience to more homes across India.”

For all the confirmation, Xiaomi hasn’t said much about the specifics yet. There’s no word on exact launch dates for individual products, or whether Mijia will get standalone retail visibility (its own section on Xiaomi’s website and app, dedicated stores) or simply live as a category tab inside the existing Xiaomi/Mi Home ecosystem. It’s also unclear whether India gets the full 200-category global catalogue eventually, or a curated subset built around what’s already proven to sell here, air purifiers, vacuums, and now ACs and refrigerators.
