Elon Musk’ X (formerly Twitter) has maintained its streak of rolling out new and paid features here and there. Cut to now, X has announced yet another subscription method to tackle ongoing bot/spam posts on the platform. Aptly named as a “Not-A-Bot” subscription service, X will be charging a sum of $1 per annum applicable to all new users enabling them to post and interact with other users.

The subscription method is currently under testing phase in the Philippines and New Zealand at PHP 42.51 and NZD 1.43 (USD 1) on an annual basis which new users will have to pay when signing up. At the moment, existing users are not affected as the subscription method is limited to new users only and that too in just New Zealand and Philippines.

X has been battling with bot spam accounts and posts forever. Users believe the situation worsened after SpaceX head honcho Elon Musk took over the system. Unlike the previous verification method, X included paid subscriptions to get a ‘blue checkmark’ that signifies that the particular account is verified.

New users on X will require phone verification when setting up their accounts followed by paying the sum of $1 on an annual basis. X has posted the information via press release according to which, new users will be able to post, like posts, repost, and reply to existing posts after paying the said sum. Those who refuse or disagree with paying the subscription plan will be limited to reading posts on X as well as following accounts and watching videos.
