Shaping up how you consume digital content, UC Browser, a company of Alibaba Mobile Business Group, today launched UC News, an App that provides curated news feed based on user content preferences (which it estimates by monitoring their usage pattern). UC News is already live and you can download and try it for free from 9Apps or Google Play store.

At the occasion UC Browser also announced that it has reached the milestone of 80 million monthly active users in India. On an average, each of these 80 million users consumes 6 pieces of news every day. UC News will try to tap into this huge potential market by bringing together traditional and new media content.

UC News aims to differentiate itself from other similar offerings by use of its Big Data technology and by integrating deep knowledge of Indian consumers which they have amassed over a period of time.

The new App includes 20+ news channels including news, cricket, technology, entertainment, movies, lifestyle, health, humour, etc. UC News also tracks and matches trending keywords from social media channels. You can also customize your news feed by selecting and editing categories you are interested in.

Media elites like Madhavan Narayanan and Paranjoy Guha graced the occasion of UC News launch with their presence too. Both of them talked about how machines and internet is shaping our world, and how the human touch is still relevant and important in guiding masses towards bona fide information sources

“Digital content consumption is on the rise and the challenge is how we can customize. Curate and present diverse content to users. Content providers face difficulties in distributing content of different formats, while consumers are swamped by an information overload. Our answer to the. Challenges is to position ourselves as a content aggregator. The newly launched UC News and upgraded UC Browser for India are two contemporary products embedded with the aim of content aggregation.” said Kenny Ye, General Manager of UCWeb, Alibaba Mobile Business Group.
