Twitter users who had previously lost their coveted “Blue Tick” verification status are now able to regain it without subscribing to Twitter Blue, although the method is temporary. This comes after Twitter began removing legacy Blue Ticks from profiles lacking a Twitter Blue subscription. Some users, such as Amitabh Bachchan, chose to pay the Rs 900 fee to retain their verified status, while others with over one million followers received it for free.

Some users have responded by adding emojis or screenshots to showcase their former verified status, but the meaning of the Blue Tick has changed. Previously, it indicated that an account had been verified as being of public interest, but now it only means that the user has paid for a monthly subscription and verified their mobile number.

For those who wish to regain their Blue Tick without purchasing a subscription, the process is simple but only works on select profiles that previously had the legacy Blue Tick. Users need only update their profile bio to include “former blue check” or “Legacy blue check,” and the Blue Tick may appear immediately. However, it will disappear once the profile is refreshed or the Twitter app is force-shut, and only the user can see it.

The reason for this temporary re-verification method remains unclear, but it appears to be a bug that Twitter may fix in the future. Users can only regain their Blue Tick permanently by paying for a monthly subscription, which costs Rs 900 for Android or iOS smartphone subscribers and Rs 650 for Twitter Web subscribers. Those with over one million followers may receive it for free, but this is not guaranteed to continue.
