One of the coolest iPhone features, Voice Isolation, uses machine learning to separate your voice from the background noise. You could be standing in the middle of a busy street, with cars honking or people chatting in the background, and yet somehow, the feature manages to cut out all the unnecessary sounds. As a result, the person on the call doesn’t hear anything but your voice.

Voice Isolation Is Available On The Following iOS And iPhone Versions
With iOS 15, Voice Isolation was available during a FaceTime audio call. However, Apple has made the microphone mode available on regular audio calls, but you’ll need iOS 16.4 or later for that. As mentioned on the official website, the feature is also available on certain third-party apps.
To use the feature, you must have an iPhone XR, any of the iPhone XS models, or newer iPhones. Even though Voice Isolation is one of the most useful features of iOS, it’s not enabled by default. Hence, here is how to enable Voice Isolation on your iPhone, especially if the other person is complaining about background noises.

Here’s How To Enable Voice Isolation On Your iPhone
- During a FaceTime call or a regular call, open the Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen.
- On iOS 17, tap on the “Mic Mode” button at the top right over the playback controls. On iOS 18, tap on the “iPhone Controls” icon at the top of the screen.
- From the available options, select “Voice Isolation.”
- If you wish to switch back, head to the same menu and select “Standard.”
The selected microphone will only apply to the app you’re using. Hence, the next time you open the app, you’ll notice that Voice Isolation is already active. Use the feature for the default Phone app, FaceTime audio, WhatsApp calls, etc., and experience a clear, hassle-free calling experience on your iPhone.
