TL; DR
- Sony’s ULT Tower 5, 7, and Max launch in India from ₹32,990 after launch cashback.
- The flagship Tower Max delivers 2,150W output and bundles a free ₹19,990 wireless mic.
- All three models support karaoke functionality, XLR/RCA DJ input, and Sound Field Optimization.
Just yesterday, I wrote a story about JBL updating its PartyBox lineup in India. Today, Sony’s has unveiled its second-generation ULT Tower lineup in India just in time for the festive season. Contrary to what I expected, this feels less like an incremental refresh and more like Sony genuinely rethinking what a party speaker should do, right down to how it should light up a room.

Sony ULT Tower 5: The Portable One With Seven Times the Lights
At 300W and 12.7kg (relatively light for a speaker this powerful), the Tower 5 is clearly built to move with you. You could carry it on the back seat or lift it and move it between floors or around the ground floor. However, the lack of wheels could be a pain point for some buyers.
A 230mm woofer with Sony’s ULT Duct tech handles the bass. The lighting system jumps to 56 LEDs, which is seven times more than its predecessor. Together, the lights can cycle through Beat, Wave, and Mellow modes.

The battery is rated to last up to 20 hours. Additional features include IPX4 splash resistance, XLR and RCA inputs, and the usual Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C.

Sony ULT Tower 7: The New Flagship Middle Ground
Stepping up to 420W (enough for poolside parties, small to medium-sized halls, or living rooms of all sizes), the Tower 7 swaps in a 280mm circular woofer and adds a rear tweeter for proper 360-degree coverage. You also get a 10-band EQ alongside new ULT1/ULT2/Live Flat sound modes (something that I got to try on the Sony ULT Field 5 speaker).

Its 72-LED lighting setup is nine times brighter than before. And yet somehow, the battery life stretches to 30 hours. This one weighs around 22.8 kg, and thankfully, the brand includes wheels as part of the package.

Sony ULT Tower Max: 2,150W and Built for Actual Events
This one gets three 280 mm woofers, a full midrange-and-tweeter array front and back, making the output powerful enough for medium to large venues, even outdoors. The speaker also gets 100 LEDs (up from just 34 on the outgoing Tower 10), which puts it firmly into professional party-rental territory.

There’s no battery here, understandably, given the power draw. However, you get full karaoke control from the back panel or app, plus wired stereo pairing for genuinely massive setups.
