South Korean smartphone maker Samsung has just announced its latest edition of Android flip phone, named as the Flagship 8 (SM-G9298), which is also the successor to its W2017 device that was outed last year in China.

The long awaited phone was earlier in the news when it got certified by TENAA, sometime in May, and comes with two 4.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED displays – one on the inside, and one on the outside.

Just like its predecessor, the phone’s outing is limited to China only (as of yet), with its global release still clouded in uncertainty.

Furthermore, the Flagship 8 comes clad in a 3D glass and metal body and has a multi-function hotkey in the keyboard as well. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor, which has a 4GB RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU in tow.

As far as the rest of the specifications are concerned, there’s a 64GB inbuilt ROM (expandable till 256GB), a Hybrid SIM slot as well as a heart rate sensor, too.

In the optics department, the phone has a 12MP rear camera with features like LED Flash, f/1.7 aperture, PDAF and 1.4μm pixel size, while a 5MP selfie snapper with f/1.9 aperture greets you up front.

Capping of the list of notable specifications are a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 2,300mAh battery with fast charging capabilities (both with wire and wireless) and preloaded features like Samsung Pay, Secure Folder and S Voice (there’s no Bixby on this one, though).

There is still no clarity over the operating system behind the phone, as the TENAA certification puts it at Android Marshmallow, although it is very likely that it may sport Android Nougat in its final version.

The company has also not yet divulged the pricing details of the phone, and its availability, as we said, would most likely be limited to China only, where it is expected to be made available soon on China Mobile.
