TL; DR
  • Samsung’s entire new foldable lineup is now official in India: the all-new Galaxy Z Fold8, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip8.
  • The Fold8 name now belongs to a new, shorter and wider foldable, while the Fold7’s actual successor has been pushed upmarket as the Fold8 Ultra.
  • The Flip8 gets a lighter build and a new chipset, but its camera, battery, and charging specs carry over unchanged from the Flip7.
  • Add this as the fourth TL;DR point:
  • The Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at ₹1,24,999, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra start at ₹1,79,999 and ₹1,99,999, respectively.
  • Pre-orders are open in India now across all three models.

Samsung’s foldable lineup has officially landed in India alongside the global Unpacked reveal in London, and for the first time, buyers here get three distinct foldables to choose from instead of two.

The naming is where most of the confusion is going to come from, so it’s worth clearing up first. In every previous generation, “Fold” simply meant the tall, book-style foldable, and that’s it. This year, Samsung has handed the Fold8 name to a brand-new, shorter and wider “passport-style” device instead.

The actual successor to last year’s Fold7, tall aspect ratio and all, has been pushed upmarket and rebranded as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. So if you’re upgrading from a Fold7 expecting the “Fold8” to be its direct replacement, it isn’t; you want the Ultra. The Flip8 is the least confusing of the three: same name, same clamshell shape, mostly the same phone as last year with a few updates layered on top.

With that cleared up, let’s take a look at the pricing and specifications of Samsung’s latest foldable lineup.

Galaxy Z Fold8

The Galaxy Z Fold8 debuts a new design philosophy for Samsung’s foldable lineup. It features a 7.6-inch 4:3 main display paired with a 5.5-inch cover display, both offering a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, Vision Booster, and a low-reflection finish.

Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. The phone includes a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, along with 10MP cameras on both the cover and inner displays.

Samsung has equipped the Fold8 with its new Flex Titanium hinge, an IP48 rating, and a 4,800mAh battery supporting 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. It weighs 201g.

Pricing (India)

  • 12GB/256GB: ₹1,79,999
  • 12GB/512GB: ₹1,99,999
  • 16GB/1TB: ₹2,39,999

Galaxy Z Flip8

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is by far the safest update of the three. The 6.9-inch main display and 4.1-inch cover screen carry over the same panel sizes and resolutions as the Flip7, and the 4,300 mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging is unchanged too. The one real hardware jump is the move from the Exynos 2500 to the Exynos 2600, alongside a modest weight drop to 180g that Samsung is billing as its lightest Flip yet.

Cameras are similarly a known quantity: a 50MP wide camera with OIS handles most of the work, paired with a 12MP ultra-wide that, like every Flip before it, doesn’t get autofocus.

The 10MP inner selfie camera is unchanged too. New tricks this year include FlipShot for personalizing the FlexWindow and capturing mirror-style selfies, and a Horizontal Lock option added to Super Steady video stabilization.

Pricing (India)

  • 12GB + 256GB: ₹1,24,999
  • 12GB + 512GB: ₹1,44,999

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra (read hands-on review) is Samsung’s new flagship foldable and the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. It features an 8-inch main display alongside a 6.5-inch cover display, both supporting 120Hz adaptive refresh rates.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and is available with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. The rear camera system includes a 200MP primary sensor, a new 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

The Fold8 Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired and 20W wireless charging. Samsung has also equipped it with the Flex Titanium hinge, an IP48 rating, and a 215g body.

Pricing (India)

  • 12GB + 256GB: ₹1,99,999
  • 12GB + 512GB: ₹2,19,999
  • 16GB + 1TB: ₹2,59,999
