Samsung Galaxy Ring: Exploring What Sets It Apart from Other Smart Rings in the Market

The Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s newest addition to its product line-up. It’s a smart ring that can track your health metrics and update you with information via the Samsung Health app.

The Galaxy Ring works with all Android smartphones but some features may be exclusive to Galaxy phones. In this article, we’ll see why the Galaxy Ring is, arguably, the best smart ring that money can buy right now.

Galaxy Ring Overview

The Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s first-of-its-kind product. It weighs 2.3 grams for the smallest size and 3 grams for the largest. It comes in sizes ranging from 5 to 13—so the battery size varies accordingly.

he Galaxy Ring uses Galaxy AI to provide health insights by combining your sleep data, heart rate, activity, and other metrics to give you an energy score. It features an accelerometer, a PPG sensor (heart rate, SpO2, ECG, BIA, sleep tracking), and a skin temperature sensor.

The Galaxy Ring’s charging case is also unique with a button that—when short-pressed—lets you check the battery level, and when long-pressed, starts pairing mode. This is all assisted by an LED indicator that helps you know more about your Galaxy Ring.

Further, Samsung offers a sizing kit you can order online or get at your nearest Samsung store. It’s available in three colors: Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold. It’s also water-resistant—so you don’t have to worry about water splashes.

1. No Subscription Fee

Perhaps the biggest perk that the Galaxy Ring has is that it doesn’t need a subscription. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive ($400) than other competitors like the Oura Ring at $350, but the $6/mo subscription cost quickly adds up.

You can get personalized and detailed insights about your health metrics from the Samsung Health app for free. Note that the Galaxy Ring works with all Android devices but it doesn’t work with iPhones.

2. Seamless Integration

The Galaxy Ring seamlessly connects with Galaxy devices, including your Galaxy Watch. It can communicate with the Galaxy Watch and get the data metrics from there to combine it with its own to give a more accurate representation of your health data.

3. Lightweight

The Galaxy Ring is one of the lightest, if not the lightest, smart rings on the market. It tips the scale at just 2.3 grams for the smallest ring size and 3 grams for the largest. Compare this to the Oura Ring—it weighs 4 grams for the smallest ring size and 6 grams for the largest.

4. Durable

The Galaxy Ring is made of scratch-resistant titanium, which makes it more durable than any other Smart Ring. The Galaxy Ring also has an elevated (concave) design on its circumference to help protect it from any damages. And yes, the Galaxy Ring is IP68 water-resistant.

5. Find My Ring

The Galaxy Ring has green and red lights that flash when you try to locate it using SmartThings Find. This is a really handy feature, especially since the Galaxy Ring is a tiny accessory prone to getting lost.

The Find My feature for the Galaxy Ring does not work with non-Samsung devices. So, if you have a non-Samsung Android phone, you’ll be able to use the Galaxy Ring but not the Find My feature.

Frankly speaking, I don’t see a reason for this to be a Samsung-exclusive feature. Hopefully, Samsung takes this feedback and adds Find My support for all Android devices.

6. Gestures Support

The Galaxy Ring has a new cool feature called Gestures, which isn’t found on any other smart ring. This allows you to dismiss alarms or take photos by double-pinching on your Galaxy Ring. Unfortunately, this feature is, again, only available on some compatible Samsung devices and not on all Android devices.

7. Convenient Charging

The Galaxy Ring offers an impressive battery life of up to 7 days on a single charge. It also includes a portable charging case (361 mAh) that can recharge the ring 1.5 times on a full charge. This setup means that you can go nearly 2 weeks without needing to plug into a wall socket.

Summing up

While we haven’t tried the Galaxy Ring (yet), we can, based on initial impressions and reviews, confirm that it’s the best smart ring out there. Although it can feel a bit heavy on the wallet at first, you’ll be happy to know that there is no subscription fee attached to the ring or your health data.

The Galaxy Ring seamlessly connects with your Samsung devices, including your Galaxy Watch, for a more accurate representation of your health data. It’s also lightweight, durable, easy to charge, and, more importantly, easy to find with the SmartThings integration.
