Samsung Exynos 9609 is the new camera-centric mobile chipset

Samsung has released a new Exynos 9609 chipset with a major focus on image processing. Lately, the brand has launched phones from both A-series as well as S-series paying special attention to the camera. The 10nm process-based Exynos 9609 is another step in the same direction.

Samsung Exynos 9609 Camera-centric Features

The new chipset is touted to be an ‘Intelligent Processor Engineered for Millennials’. To be precise, it has a major focus on squeezing the best out of optics to give the millennials a better content-creation experience.

It has advanced ISP and MFC with a vision image processing that should enable diverse intelligent photography features for enhanced quality in both photo and video. The Exynos 9609 processor has an octa-core CPU-GPU combo that could tap on the processing power required. This is coupled with an integrated modem that could deliver diverse connectivity enabling faster and reliable mobile communication.

Samsung has baked in a vision image processing unit that packs a neural network engine and a digital signal processor (DSP). It uses deep learning to process analog signals to digital and analyzes the objects or environment within the image.

Though Samsung Exynos 9609 comes with dual-camera support, the company is confident on the chipset’s ability to use depth sensing and bokeh blur with a single sensor. Yet again, AI could play a role in reducing noises and produce better night or low-light photographs.

If videography is your thing, then the Exynos 9609 processor’s support for a multi-format codec should cheer you up. The company shares this should be able to encode and decode 4K videos at 60fps with diverse codecs such as HEVC(H.265), H.264 and VP9.

Samsung Exynos 9609: Rest of the Specs

Moving to core specs, this one is powered by an octa-core CPU that consists of four powerful cores and four energy-efficient cores. Firstly, we have the Cortex-A73 quad-core CPU that runs at a clock speed of up to 2.2GHz. Further, its Cortex-A53 quad-core CPU is clocked up to 1.6GHz speed. We could expect an improved performance along with efficient battery life.

The graphics are helmed by ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU which is a second-generation Bifrost architecture. This bears the latest graphics APIs and diverse processing techniques for great details and graphics rendering.

Now for each and every activity, Internet and other connectivity mediums are musts. Exynos 9609 processor has an LTE modem that supports 600Mbps for downlink and 150Mbps for uplink along with connectivity solutions such as 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and FM radio. GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver is the integrated navigation solution which includes GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo for global location coverage.
