Samsung confirms Exynos 2200 will launch with Galaxy S22 series

Although Samsung was expected to unveil the Exynos 2200 on January 11, it was an ExyNoShow (pardon the pun) on the said date. However, putting stop to some of the concerning rumors, the chaebol’s Electronics division has revealed the new flagship chipset would be debuted alongside the Galaxy S22 series launch.

“We are planning to unveil the new application processor at the time of launching a new Samsung smartphone. There are no problems with the AP’s production and performance,” said a Samsung Electronics official.

So, here’s what to expect from the forthcoming silicon:

Exynos 2200 Expectations and Everything We Know

For months now, we have been awaiting this chip for it is poised to show the fruits of Samsung’s partnership with AMD. Yes, as you may already know, the Exynos 2200 will be equipped with an AMD GPU. This particular GPU will be based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture which we have seen powering graphics on high-end devices like PS5, Xbox Series X, and AMD’s own RX 6000-series graphics cards.

Of course, this is a mobile graphics we are talking about so temper your expectations. At the very least, we could get to see an improvement over the Arm Mali GPU of Exynos 2100.

“The new GPU is expected to resolve the problems of the Exynos 2100. We intend to sharpen our competitiveness by loading GPUs for games into mobile devices,” claims the aforementioned official.

Samsung’s teaser for Exynos 2200

From the rumors we have heard thus far, we think the Exynos 2200 will sport 4 compute units, ray tracing, and overclocking support. While some early reports have mentioned the chip’s capability of clocking 1,800MHz frequency but at a 10W power limit, recently some leaks quoted just 1,300MHz clock speed (psst, still a bit ahead of A15 Bionic’s 1,200MHz GPU speeds.

And it’s not just the GPU rumors, but we have also heard the Exynos 2200’s tri-cluster structure to include Cortex X2 prime core, Cortex-A710 mid-performance core, and Cortex-A510 efficiency cores.

Now even though the synthetic test results haven’t been very promising but we would reserve our judgment until the actual thing is here. You could expect it to come inside a Galaxy S22 smartphone in the month of February. You may read more about the S22 lineup’s launch date, specs, and other details here.
