Samsung announced its 12Gb LPDDR5 DRAM for smartphones, which would bring better 5G and AI capabilities. The production is slated to start later this month. Earlier this year only, the South Korean tech giant had announced work on the 12GB LPDDR4X RAM.

Samsung 12Gb LPDDR5 DRAM: Improvements

The brand claims improved performance and capacity from the new DRAM upgrade. It will be based on Samsung’s latest second-gen 10nm class process. As we are at the cusp of 5G advent, the 12gigs of LPDDR5 RAM could bolster the required technical base.

Samsung envisions AI and machine learning to gain from this, besides 5G. An optimized performance could benefit the battery life of the smartphones employing these cutting edge techs.

Coming to raw spec difference, the 12GB LPDDR5 DRAM could transfer data at a rate of 5,500 megabits per second (Mb/s), which is approximately 1.3 times faster than the current LPDDR4X memory with 4266Mb/s speed. If you’re unaware, the latter is used in our smartphones these days.

Samsung brags that with its arrival you could transfer 44GB data, or around 12 full HD (3.7GB-sized) movies, in only a second, which is impressive nonetheless.

This will draw up to 30 percent less power than its predecessor in dint of a new circuit design with enhanced clocking, training and low-power feature. All this simply means a stable and smooth performance without sacrificing the battery life of your phone.

It is planning to move its production unit to Pyeongtaek (Korea) campus for larger and flexible production capacity. If 12Gb LPDDR5 RAM seems huge, then wait for 16Gb LPDDR5 next year, as the brand revealed its milestones on the global memory market.
