Yesterday, Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 13 Series in India. The Redmi Note 13 Series includes 3 smartphones- Redmi Note 13, Redmi Note 13 Pro, and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G. The Redmi Note 13 Series aims to offer a balance between specs and affordability. Xiaomi claims that the top-end Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus variant has received some major upgrades when one asks what has changed since last year, Xiaomi claims ‘everything’. To conclude if one should go for Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus or opt for Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus even now, let’s analyze what has changed in this year’s device.
Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus Vs Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus: Design
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus features an all-new fusion faux leather design for the rear panel while Note 12 Pro Plus has a glass back panel finish. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (199g) is almost 10 grams lighter than the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ (208.4g) and comes in gorgeous Fusion Purple, Fusion Black, and Fusion White shades, as opposed to Note 12 Pro Plus that came in Arctic White, Iceberg Blue and Obsidian black shades.
While the Note 12 Pro Plus supports single Nano SIM, the Note 13 Pro Plus supports dual Nano SIM cards. The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus comes with an IP68 rating for being Waterproof, while the Note 12 Pro Plus is IP53 rated for splash resistance only. Both the devices are dust resistant but Note 13 Pro+ comes with NFC that allows one-tap easy payments. NFC was absent in Note 12 Pro Plus.

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus Vs Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus: Display
In terms of display, Redmi Note 13 Pro has a similar-sized 6.67-inch AMOLED panel as the predecessor. However, there is a change in the resolution as it now is 1220×2712 pixels as opposed to the Redmi Note 12 Pro which had a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels. Both have a 240Hz touch sampling rate and a 120Hz refresh rate however, Note 13 Pro Plus is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus as opposed to Gorilla Glass 5 for Note 12 Pro Plus.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus featured a curved display with 1.5K resolution, 1800 nits brightness level, and HDR10+ capability which were earlier not present in the Note 12 Pro Plus.
Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus Vs Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus: Chipset/ RAM/ROM/OS
Redmi has taken a huge leap in terms of SoC. While Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus was powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus features the all-new MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra SoC. The latest chipset comes with a faster 2.8 GHz clock speed and is paired with a better Mali-G610 MC4 GPU.
Moreover, the smartphone launched yesterday runs Android 13-based MIUI 14 and is HyperOS ready while the last year’s note ran Android 12-based MIUI 13 out of the box. Paired with the CPU and GPU are RAM and ROM. Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus came with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage but Redmi Note 13 Pro+ comes with up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. The RAM has been boosted from LPPDR4X to LPDDR5 while storage has become faster from UFS 2.2 to UFS 3.1. Bluetooth has been upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 while the vapor chamber has been extended to 4000mm square from 3000mm square.

On Paper, Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus both feature a triple camera setup including a 200MP main, 8MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro lens. However, the 200MP camera has been improved this time as it now comes with a 200MP mode, in-sensor zoom with 2x, 4x lossless zoom, Google Lens, AI camera, Panorama, HDR Macro mode, Screen Ring Light, Steady Video, 4K recording, Slow Motion Selfie, and more.

If we talk about the battery, Redmi has boosted the battery size from 4980mAh to 5000mAh. The fast-charging speed remains the same 120W while reverse charging has been enabled on Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus. Also, Redmi still bundles the adapter inside the box, so that is a relief.

Although the upgrades might seem minimal, but Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus is definitely a better choice than last year’s Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus.
