Redmi 7A updates the entry-level phone from the Xiaomi sub-brand and touts to offer the best value for money. As a successor to last year’s successful Redmi 6A, the new handset delivers a beefier battery, an upgraded processor and enhanced camera. To top this, the phone starts at a price of Rs. 5,999 with an introductory price cut. But does all of these make it the best low-end budget phone?

To answer this, we have to pit it against the prevailing competition in the market. You know it, we know it and as evident from the title, the top contender is- Realme C2 (review). Given its starting price tag of Rs. 5,999 and the underlying offering, it might sure sound like a fair deal for your money. Even the Realme India CEO Mr. Madhav Sheth made a jab at Redmi 7A and overtly compared the two phones.

Now one might think his tweet to be biased for obvious reasons. So, in all due fairness, we decided to compare – #DeshKaRealChoice vs Desh Ka Smartphone. By the end, we have shared a BONUS contender too.

From first glance, you would notice the long black forehead of Redmi 7A. Stranger things are happening and Redmi 7A’s aged design choice is a glaring one. Realme C2 in comparison looks modern flaunting a dewdrop notch up top.

Specswise, Realme C2 impresses with a 6.1-inch HD+ LCD display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Redmi 7A has a smaller 5.45-inch HD+ LCD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio.

Both of them are plastic build weighing somewhat the same. While Realme designed a diamond cut texture, Redmi goes with a plain back. Redmi 7A touts P2i splash-resistant coating. Realme C2 comes in Diamond Black and Diamond Blue hues. As for Redmi 7A, you could grab it in Matte Black, Matte Gold, and Matte blue colors.

Realme C2 is team MediaTek with Helio P22 and Redmi 7A is part of Qualcomm club with Snapdragon 439 chipset. Redmi comes in a single 2GB RAM option coupled with a 16GB or 32GB storage variants. In case of Realme, you could either opt the 2GB plus 16GB/32GB model or 3GB with a 32GB variant.

The clear real-world performance difference can only be tested once we have the device, which unfortunately we don’t. However, at least on paper, they are not night and day. Xiaomi touted a 75329 Antutu score during the launch which wanes behind the 77000 (approx) score of Realme C2. That said, specs might not be always loyal to actual performance.

Software-side, the Redmi 7A runs on MIUI 10 and Realme C2 on Color OS 6.0 skin. Their respective RAM and power management features could benefit both of their’s 4000mAH batteries. Since both of them runs on Android Pie with the feature-rich epidermis, the final choice lies within your taste. For now, our pick goes to MIUI, barring its ad-infected interface over the Color OS. But, this could change with the arrival of the rumored Realme software revamp.

Redmi 7A puts its money on a single 12MP camera with f/2.2 aperture at the back. Upfront, your selfies would be produced by a 5MP (f/2.0) sensor. Realme C2, on the other hand, sports a dual setup with a primary 13MP (f/2.2) shooter with a 2MP f(2.4) depth sensor. The dewdrop notch is home to a 5MP (f/2.0) selfie snapper.

Although Realme C2 has an upper hand with numbers, that should necessarily not translate to the best output. Besides this, both of them are equipped with an LED flash and video recording capability upto 1080p@30fps from the rear camera.

Realme C2 features a newer aesthetics with a larger display and clearly wins in the book of looks. It has a larger RAM variant, and an additional depth sensing unit to aid the optics. But when Redmi 7A’s sale begins from July 11, a polished software could be its only draw.

Additionally, if you aren’t satisfied with both of them, you could consider Samsung Galaxy M10 (review). It has the biggest of display amongst the three, which stretches to 6.22-inches with 82.1% screen-to-body ratio, 720 x 1520 pixels, and 19:9 ratio aspect ratio.

You get the latest Android 9.0 Pie based OneUI skin, which runs within premium Samsung flagships. The processing is helmed by a 14nm based Exynos 7870 octa-core chipset with 1.6GHz clock speed and Mali-T830 MP1 GPU.
