TL;DR
- Pixel 9a’s design leak reveals no camera bump and a flat frame
- Pixel 9a will be available in four colors
- Pixel 9a is already in mass production and could launch by the end of 2024
Leaked real-life photos of the upcoming Pixel 9a have surfaced, showing a major design shift from previous models. Shared initially by a private Vietnamese Pixel fan group and later by Shrimp Apple Pro on X (formerly Twitter), the images reveal the design of the Pixel 9a.
Design changes
The new design features dual cameras, just like the Pixel 8a, and a flash, all arranged horizontally, similar to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 8a, but with a flatter profile. Yes, the iconic camera visor that we had since the Pixel 6a seems to be taking a departure now.
As for the frame, the Pixel 9a also adopts the same design philosophy as the Pixel 9, with flat frames and rounded corners. However, the bezels seem to remain thick, reminiscent of the Pixel 8a.

The position of the speakers and the SIM tray are different when compared to the Pixel 9. They have been swapped places from left to right. The USB-C port and microphone placements are unchanged.
Shrimp, in another tweet, suggests that the Pixel 9a will be available in four colors—the one that has been leaked (black), silver, and two others.

Original post has been taken down
Nonetheless, it’s important to take the information with a heavy grain of salt, as the images’ authenticity remains unconfirmed. Also, this is just a prototype of the Pixel 9a, so things could change later on.
Notably, though, the original image has been deleted from the Facebook group and Shrimp suggests that the author probably got forced to delete the image since he’s an employee (likely, of Google).
Pixel 9a could launch by the end of 2024
Shrimp also suggets that the Pixel 9a is already in mass production, implying that the design, if accurate, has already been finalized. Shrimp also shared that the Pixel 9a will be launched by the end of this year. This is in-line with the Pixel 9 series, which was also launched earlier than usual.
