The base 128GB Samsung Galaxy S23 got UFS 3.1 while the rest of the Galaxy S23 series ensemble resorted to a faster UFS 4.0 storage. The latest rumor coming from a South Korean leakster suggests Samsung could pull off something similar with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series as well. It could potentially pose a problem in terms of performance for the base model.

Coming from South Korean leakster yeux1122 on Naver, 128GB Galaxy S24 will use UFS 3.1 while other models will get the faster UFS 4.0 tech under the hood. The tipster reportedly learned this from a parts manufacturer which means the rumor could hold credibility.

Samsung has upgraded the latest Galaxy S24 series with AI tech, a combination of Exynos 2400 SoC and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC (region-specific) among others. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the South Korean giant wants to keep the pricing in line with the Galaxy S23 series. It means there will be cutbacks and measures to prevent the prices of the units balloon and seems like the decision to use UFS 3.1 on the base model rather than UFS 4.0 is a part of that strategy.

For the unversed, UFS 4.0 is the latest tech that flagship phones have been picking including OnePlus 11, and Google Pixel 8 Pro, among others. There are some exceptions such as the Pixel 8 and even Samsung Galaxy S23 (base configuration).

UFS 4.0 is technically twice in sequential read and sequential write speeds than UFS 3.1 while consuming 46% less power. Having faster flash storage translates into faster app loading times and benefits those memory-intensive apps without lagging. Although UFS 3.1 is not a yesteryear technology, it is just that having a faster storage system makes flagship devices future-proof unless you are something who changes their phones often.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Pricing Strategy

Samsung has been cutting corners to make the Galaxy S24 series the same price as the Galaxy S23 series. It is likely to be $799.99 for the Galaxy S24, $999.99 for the Galaxy S24 Plus, and $1199.99 for the high-end Galaxy S24 Ultra. It will be using its in-house Exynos 2400 SoC on the standard and Plus variants in some regions which should help it save a tonne compared to the more expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

Apart from that, available RAM is a part of the discussion at Samsung too due to inflating memory prices. However, there’s no certain information on the specs yet so let’s keep our fingers crossed. Samsung Galaxy S24 series is all set to launch on January 17 which gives us just a few weeks to spare.
