Oppo has recently announced its debut into the flip phone market with the introduction of the Find N2 Flip, designed to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 (review). One of the standout features that sets this device apart from other flip phones is its innovative Flexion hinge mechanism. Unlike other foldable or flip phones that often have a noticeable crease in the middle, the Flexion hinge eliminates this unsightly issue. Oppo has invested five years of research and development into perfecting this hinge technology, and they have now shared more details about its workings with the public.

OPPO’s Flexion hinge: All you need to know

The Flexion hinge on the Find N2 Flip has not only eliminated the visible crease common in other foldable and flip phones but has also enabled Oppo to include a larger cover display and a bigger battery. According to Oppo, the hinge’s larger bending radius creates a lighter crease and minimizes screen deformation compared to a U-shaped hinge.

Oppo has achieved a cleaner and more stable design by using fewer parts in the hinge mechanism. Additionally, the 1/4 spindle assembly in the Flexion hinge allows it to stay firmly in place when folded between 45 and 110 degrees. The hinge’s stainless-steel element is injected with a soft and pliable material, resulting in a 15% higher tensile and 25% higher yield strength than traditional hinge designs.

Oppo has utilized aircraft-grade carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer to create a hinge that is both sturdy and lightweight, offering the perfect amount of flexibility and stability.

This innovative hinge design has enabled Oppo to incorporate a large 3.26-inch cover display, the largest among flip phones, surpassing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4, which only has a 1.9-inch cover display. Additionally, the Find N2 Flip boasts a spacious 4,300mAh battery, made possible by the hinge mechanism that frees up internal space. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 only features a 3,700mAh battery.
