Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review: Design

Oppo Reno Series has always been known for 2 main things- Camera and Design. While we will talk about the camera setup in detail later on, let us focus on Design first. The Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G has a two-tone exquisite design for its back panel.

The smartphone is available in 2 shades- Glossy Purple and Silvery Grey, out of which I received the former color variant for review purposes. The smartphone has a glass back panel that has a glossy finish and it looks gorgeous from afar. Purple being my favorite color, I was slightly biased towards the shade, but otherwise, as well it looked pleasing to the eye and aesthetic.

The back panel has Oppo branding at the bottom and protruded camera module in an elliptical shape at the top left corner.

The camera module has 3 lenses along with LED flash and is slightly protruded which disbalances the smartphone when kept on a flat surface. The right edge has a power button as well as volume rockers while the left edge is left plain. The top edge has a speaker grille, and IR port while the bottom edge houses a dual SIM tray, primary speaker grille, and USB Type-C port for connectivity.

The display at the front is a 3D curved OLED panel with extremely narrow bezels. The best part is that the back panel doesn’t catch any smudges or fingerprints, no matter how sweaty hands you use to hold it. The smartphone has a sleek and lightweight design as it is 8.28mm thick and weighs 194 grams.

The only downside lies with the in-hand grip of the smartphone. The device has a glossy finish but is too slippery when held in hand. The smartphone is so slippery that it felt like it would slip out if not held firmly. Though putting a cover on does solve this issue, for those like me who don’t like to hamper the smartphone’s appearance by covering it, this will be a bummer.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review: Display

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus 5G sports a 6.74-inch OLED 3D curved display that has hardly noticeable bezels all around. The display gives clear, crisp, and vibrant visuals while content consumption and the viewing angles are decent as well. With its 1 Billion color display, the color accuracy is almost perfect an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate makes sure that the scrolling experience is buttery smooth.

The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Protection which means one doesn’t have to worry about it getting scratched or dented easily. The only shortcoming of the display is the brightness in outdoor settings. Oppo claims that it gives a maximum of 1100 nits brightness in outdoor settings but that doesn’t seem enough as the screen is not clearly visible under direct sunlight.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review: Camera

Oppo has been heavily promoting the camera prowess of the Reno 10 Pro Plus smartphone, especially its impressive camera setup. On paper, the device boasts a 50MP primary camera, a 64MP telephoto portrait lens, and a 112-degree ultrawide angle lens. But the question remains: Does this new camera setup truly live up to the hype?

Starting with the 50MP primary camera equipped with a Sony IMX890 sensor, it excels in capturing light and delivering excellent picture quality. Thanks to the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), even shaky hands or moving objects won’t blur the images. In good lighting conditions, the shots are filled with intricate details, sharpness, and accurate colors. The natural representation of greens, reds, and blues adds to the overall image quality. Take a look at the samples below, where the camera beautifully captures the expansive scenery and showcases stunning details, like the water droplets on the leaves.

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus demonstrates its ability to capture breathtaking landscapes while preserving the intricate elements. The shots not only look gorgeous but also showcase the camera’s ability to capture fine details and reproduce them accurately. The water droplets on the leaves add a touch of elegance to the overall composition, making the shot truly stunning.

Now let’s talk about the shots clicked in indoor settings. The photographs below are clicked inside a fine dining café that had low but aesthetic lighting. The shots taken inside the café, as well as outdoors on the rooftop, are full of details. Although the lighting was low on the rooftop, it cannot be felt in pictures clicked with the telephoto lens. All it tells you is to move away to move closer for the best quality images.

The objects in the frame have a striking appearance and details are also visible on zooming in. However, when lighting conditions indoors are poor, the drop in detailing is clearly visible. The objects in the frame are well-focused and the background is kept as a supporting actor, not being allowed to dominate the frame.

One aspect that deserves special attention is the 64MP telephoto portrait lens featured in the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus. While most smartphones typically offer a 2MP depth or macro lens for portrait mode, Oppo has packed telephoto lens for portrait photography. The telephoto portrait lens is equipped with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and offers up to 3x optical zoom, ensuring excellent results in both good and low light conditions.

Below, you’ll find sample shots taken in daylight using the telephoto lens in portrait mode. These images are brimming with intricate details, remarkable sharpness, and vibrant colors. The Reno 10 Pro Plus excels at capturing portraits with precise subject definition, clean edges, and no unwanted blurring. Pay close attention to the bench on which the subject is seated, and notice how the camera smoothly and gradually creates a bokeh effect akin to what you would expect from a DSLR.

I was really impressed with the 3X portrait shots that I managed to take with the OPPO Reno 10 Pro telephoto camera. The results were impressive, with the camera producing stunning shots that showcased a good amount of details. The ability to zoom in while maintaining image quality is a significant advantage, allowing for capturing close-up portraits without compromising on sharpness or accuracy.

The OPPO Reno 10 Pro’s 112-degree ultrawide lens offers an excellent field of view, perfect for capturing wider scenes. While the level of detail may be slightly lower compared to the primary lens, this lens proves to be incredibly useful when you want to encompass a larger area, such as in a family portrait or capturing expansive landscapes.

At the front is a 32MP selfie camera, and the selfie camera is pro-level as well. The front camera gives ultra-clear selfies during the day as well as night time, especially group selfies that come out to be top-notch and can squeeze in the entire family easily. The subjects are kept in focus while the background is slightly blurred which gives the selfies and aesthetic look. Moreover, the best part is that the skin tones look natural and the color reproduction is gorgeous as well.

I used the camera setup while on dinner with my family and it did make the experience a memorable one.

The camera setup is undoubtedly one of the strongest areas of the smartphone, so much so that I felt like saying well done Oppo!

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review: Performance

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It is built on a 4nm TSMC process and is 30% more powerful and fast than its predecessor 8 Gen 1. The chipset makes the device fast, smooth and efficient. Whether it is while gaming, or performing heavy-duty tasks like video editing, there are hardly any lags. It comes with 12GB RAM in-built which kept the device lag free even when I had over 20 apps running simultaneously. The apps open and load quickly and bringing them up from the background never slowed down the device. The smartphone has 256GB onboard storage so you can store whatever you want to.

Games like PUBG Mobile ran seamlessly with medium frame rates and HD graphics for long periods of time. The only issue was the slight heating up of the device after 20 minutes. Despite a 3500mm2 VC liquid cooling system, it does warm up after gaming and during benchmark tests. The results of benchmark tests are given below-

Talking about software, the Reno 10 Pro Plus runs Android 13-based ColorOS 13 which allows you to control all your home appliances with the device in your hand. The OS also allows a multi-screen connection and an Always on Display and is colorful and fun to use, but there’s a downside as well. The smartphone comes with tons of bloatware which is pretty annoying.

Apps like Tiki, Telegram, Spotify, Snapchat, PhonePe, Moj, Dream 11, and many more come pre-installed. Though you can uninstall most of them if you don’t need them, filling up a flagship device with so much bloatware is definitely a dumb move from Oppo. In colorOS you will notice app recommendations in unlikely places such as Internet browser search bar which should I believe be there in a flagship phone. Another issue that I noticed is lack of 120Hz refresh rate support in third-party apps. OPPO should take inspiration from brands like Motorola and Nothing which give a better and cleaner overall UI and UX experience.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review: Battery

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus 5G packs a 4700mAh battery under the hood. Now since most mid-range smartphones also come with at least a 5000mAh battery these days, this capacity looks less for a flagship device. But when I started using the device, I felt the battery size might be smaller, but the drainage rate is slower as well. Even after an entire day of usage, which included clicking pictures, watching content, calling, playing games, and listening to music, it had around 32% battery remaining which is pretty decent.

Moreover, 100W SuperVOOC charging charged the device from 0 10 100% in less than 30 minutes which means even if I got 20 minutes to charge this smartphone, it was enough for more than half a day’s usage. It comes with a SuperVOOC S Power Management Chip which improved the efficiency of charging. All in all, there is hardly any room for complaints in the battery and charging department.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ 5G Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is a flagship-grade smartphone that comes with a fast and efficient chipset, super-fast 100W charging, stylish and lightweight design, gorgeous OLED display, and a top-notch camera setup.

Ignoring the slight niggles like bloatware, peak outdoor brightness, and slippery material for the back panel, the Reno 10 Pro+ can be a perfect photography companion for all your needs. If you need a smartphone that lasts all day, gives a fast performance, and allows you to capture all important moments of your life, but your pocket doesn’t allow you to buy a lakh rupees device, then Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ can be an option for you.
