When Oneplus entered the smartphone market in 2013, it was popular for bringing out phones that were affordable but were packed with features that could compete with flagship phones of other companies at that time. Slowly, the company started following what other companies do and increased the prices to give more premium features to its users. Now, OnePlus wants to return to its roots and do what it did at the beginning, which includes launching affordable smartphones with flagship chipsets.

Cheaper Flagship smartphones range soon?

Popular tipster Digital Chat Station (via Weibo) claims that OnePlus will soon launch a new smartphone series that will focus on gaming and performance but will be based in an affordable price range.

Digital Chat Station suggested that the company is gearing up to launch the series between CNY 2000 (Rs. 23,456) and CNY 3000 (Rs. 35,184), which could be the company’s way of striking a balance between budget price & premium features.

Though the OnePlus Nord series exists, the newly launched one will pack flagship chipsets inside, which can be huge. Although the chances of these phones having Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is bleak, others like Snapdragon 888+, Snapdragon 870, MediaTek Dimensity 1200, or the Dimensity 9000 could be a part of the phones.

This new line-up of OnePlus will aim to compete with Xiaomi, IQOO, and even its own Nord models and “R” models, that fall under Rs. 40,000 in India. OnePlus might give flagship chipsets to these new phones, but other departments might see compromises like camera specs limited,  lack of IP rating or wireless charging, build quality, and more.

For the news to hold water, more specs and information is bound to surface soon, until then we advise you to take this information with a grain of salt. However, in the meanwhile do let us know what would you like to see if such a series is launched in the future.
