The OnePlus Open, the Chinese smartphone maker’s first foldable phone, rose to the ranks of one of the best foldable phones in 2023 (and counting). This would motivate OnePlus to prepare the sequel this year, right? We have heard that the OnePlus Open 2 is not happening this year and will resort to its launch in early 2025.
The information comes from various tipsters, including the most-famed Digital Chat Station (via Weibo). The Oppo Find N5 foldable is slated to launch in Q1 2025. Since Oppo and OnePlus phones go hand-in-hand, as evident by the entire OnePlus numbered flagship series, this means that if there’s no Oppo Find N5 (the next iteration using the same nomenclature as before), there won’t be any OnePlus Open 2 this year.

It is safe to assume that OnePlus will launch the sequel, the OnePlus Open 2, in early 2025, unlike the timeline change. We don’t know much about the OnePlus Open 2. Still, unfortunately, we do know that the OnePlus has a thin and ultra-flat folding design along with a high-res cover display. Also, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which is also slated to be announced later this year, followed by an initial batch of adopters by the end of this year and early 2025.
There’s not much known about the OnePlus Open 2. We expect OnePlus (and Oppo) to retain the periscope camera from last year. We are also exploring IPX8 water resistance, wireless charging tech, and software enhancements for foldable user interfaces and beyond.
The original OnePlus Open received many accolades and praise for its overall performance and value for money. It is almost superior to Motorola Razr Plus, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Google Pixel Fold while quoting competitive pricing.
