OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Massive Battery, Better Durability, Confusing Camera Decisions

Quick Verdict

The OnePlus Nord CE6 takes the Nord CE series in a different direction this time. The 8,000 mAh battery is excellent, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 performs well for regular usage and BGMI, the new 32MP selfie camera delivers great results, and the display is strong with a bright 144 Hz AMOLED panel.

At the same time, some of the decisions here feel strange. The rear cameras are a downgrade compared to the Nord CE5, the ultra-wide camera is gone completely, NFC is missing, and software support has also been reduced. The Nord CE5 actually had a better rear camera setup and longer update commitment.

Buy it if:

  • You want excellent battery life and fast charging
  • You want a bright AMOLED display with good outdoor visibility
  • You want strong durability ratings and solid build quality
  • You prefer OxygenOS and smooth day-to-day performance

Skip it if:

  • You want strong rear cameras
  • You need an ultra-wide camera
  • Long-term software support matters a lot to you
  • You can get the Nord 5 or vivo T5 Pro at a similar price

The Nord CE lineup has usually focused on balancing performance, battery life, and software while keeping prices slightly lower than the main Nord series. The Nord CE5 followed that formula fairly well with a capable Dimensity chipset, decent cameras, and surprisingly good software support.

The Nord CE6 changes that approach quite a bit. OnePlus has shifted focus heavily toward battery life and durability this time. You now get a massive 8,000 mAh battery, stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor, stronger IP ratings, a brighter 144 Hz AMOLED display, and a cleaner new design that honestly looks much better than older CE devices.

OnePlus Nord CE6

At the same time, there are some obvious compromises. The ultra-wide camera has been removed entirely and replaced with a 2 MP depth sensor, the main sensor itself is much smaller than before, and update support has gone backwards compared to the Nord CE5. Even features like NFC are missing here.

So the question becomes fairly simple. Does the Nord CE6 still make sense as an overall package, or has OnePlus focused too heavily on battery life while sacrificing too much elsewhere? After using it for two weeks, here’s the full review.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Design and Build

OnePlus Nord CE6

The OnePlus Nord CE6 actually surprised me quite a lot when it comes to the design. On paper, this is a phone with an 8,000 mAh battery inside, so naturally I expected it to feel extremely bulky or uncomfortable, but OnePlus has handled the weight distribution pretty well here. At 215 grams and 8.5 mm thickness, it is obviously not a small phone, though it never becomes uncomfortable during regular usage.

The design has also grown on me a lot over time, especially this Fresh Blue color variant (it comes in Lunar Pearl and Pitch Black too) . It has a clean reflective finish with a subtle texture underneath and looks much better in person than in renders.

OnePlus Nord CE6

OnePlus calls this design language the “Dynamic 3D Luminous Border,” and while the marketing name is dramatic, the actual look is nice and modern. The camera module is simple with two large circular cutouts and a flash beside them, and the overall design looks really nice.

The phone uses a plastic frame and plastic back, which makes sense considering the size of the battery inside. Still, the in-hand feel is solid and there are no creaking issues or loose buttons anywhere. The edges are flat, the frame has a matte texture, and the phone feels sturdy.

OnePlus Nord CE6

OnePlus has also improved durability significantly compared to the Nord CE5. The Nord CE6 comes with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings along with MIL-STD-810H certification. This means the phone is resistant against dust, water immersion, high-pressure water jets, and accidental drops. OnePlus has also added Crystal Guard protection on the front, which is their own strengthened glass solution.

The button placement is mostly good. On the right side, you get the power button and volume buttons. The buttons are placed slightly higher than usual, though you get used to that fairly quickly.

OnePlus Nord CE6

At the bottom, you get the dual nano SIM tray, USB Type-C 2.0 port, microphone, and primary speaker. Up top, there’s the IR blaster and secondary microphone. The phone also supports dual stereo speakers this time, which is a big upgrade over the Nord CE5 that only had a single speaker setup.

There is no microSD card slot here and also no NFC support, which feels disappointing at this price.

Connectivity overall is still good otherwise. Jio 5G worked reliably during testing, network reception was stable, and call quality was perfectly fine. Bluetooth codec support is also excellent here with LDAC, LHDC 5.0, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC support.

Overall, the Nord CE6 does a really good job balancing battery size with usability. The design looks modern, the blue color is attractive, durability is excellent, and the in-hand feel is much better than expected for such a large battery phone.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Display

OnePlus Nord CE6

The display is honestly one of the stronger parts of the Nord CE6. You get a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPS AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2772 x 1272, 450 ppi pixel density, 10-bit color support, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. In actual usage, this is a very good display for the segment.

The panel supports up to a 144 Hz refresh rate, although in regular system usage it mostly switches between 60 Hz, 90 Hz, and 120 Hz. The full 144 Hz mode is mainly available inside supported games. Games like Subway Surfers, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and some other titles can actually run at 144 FPS here. Scrolling feels smooth, animations are fluid, and OxygenOS itself takes good advantage of the higher refresh rate.

Brightness is another strong area. The display supports 800 nits manual brightness, 1800 nits HBM brightness, and up to 3600 nits peak brightness. Outdoor visibility is excellent and even under direct sunlight, the display remains easy to read. OnePlus is also using its “Sunburst HDR” technology here for improving outdoor contrast and visibility.

OnePlus Nord CE6

Colors on this panel are good as well. Inside the settings, you can choose between Natural, Vivid, and Adaptive color profiles depending on your preference. The AMOLED panel produces deep blacks and media consumption looks really nice here. Full-screen viewing experience is good, bezels are fairly slim, and the punch-hole cutout is reasonably small.

Display OnePlus Nord CE6

Touch response is another highlight. The Nord CE6 supports up to 3200 Hz instantaneous touch sampling with a dedicated Touch Reflex Chip. During gaming, touch latency feels very low and inputs register quickly, especially in BGMI. Aqua Touch 2.0 is also present, so the screen still responds even with wet or greasy fingers.

OnePlus has also focused a lot on eye comfort features. The display supports 3840 Hz PWM dimming which helps reduce eye strain at lower brightness levels. You also get Eye Comfort mode, Bedtime mode, Night mode, white point reduction, screen color temperature controls, auto and manual brightness adjustments, and extra dimming support. The display can get surprisingly dim at night which helps during late-night usage.

The one thing worth noting is that this is an LTPS panel, not LTPO, so there is no support for true Always-On Display. Still, for this price segment, this is a very strong display overall.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Speakers and Haptics

The Nord CE6 comes with a stereo speaker setup, and this is a major improvement over the Nord CE5 which only had a single bottom speaker. The speakers here get quite loud and OnePlus also includes the 300% volume boost mode. When enabled, the phone becomes extremely loud, though sound quality and clarity do take a noticeable hit.

Speakers

The phone also supports OReality Audio along with high-quality Bluetooth codecs like LDAC, LHDC 5.0, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC, and SBC. Wireless audio quality is completely fine and there were no connectivity issues with earbuds during testing.

O-Haptics

Haptics are another area where the Nord CE6 improves quite a lot over the CE5. The older model used a regular vibration motor that honestly felt pretty cheap. The Nord CE6 now uses an X-axis linear motor, and the difference is huge. You also get O-Haptics support, which means the haptics integration is solid across the system.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Software

OOS16

The OnePlus Nord CE6 runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16, and overall the software experience is still one of the stronger reasons to consider this phone. OxygenOS continues to feel smooth, fast, and responsive in day-to-day usage.

OxygenOS 16

Animations are fluid, app opening speeds are quick, and multitasking performance is good partly because of the UFS 3.1 storage. Even though this is not a flagship OnePlus device, the overall software experience still carries a lot of that familiar OxygenOS polish.

At the same time, there are a few strange limitations here compared to even older Nord devices. The Nord CE6 only gets 2 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates, which is extremely disappointing because the Nord CE5 actually had 4 + 5 years of support.

Customization is still quite good overall. You can choose between different fonts like One Sans and Roboto, customize icon packs, change icon shapes and sizes, modify fingerprint unlock animations, and tweak icon colors depending on dark or light mode. OxygenOS 16 also includes Flux Theme 2.0 with lock screen customization features and wallpaper effects similar to the Nord 6.

Unfortunately, OnePlus has removed a few visual elements that were available even on older Nord devices. There is no proper always-on display transition animation from lock screen to AOD, and the Always-on Display itself is very basic.

There is also no blur effect while opening or closing apps, even though blur still exists inside places like the control center and notification shade. These omissions are honestly strange because older Nord devices had these features.

You still get proper opening and closing animations throughout the UI, and general smoothness remains very good. The phone also includes Live Alerts for showing live updates from apps, Circle to Search support, floating windows, split-screen multitasking, gaming overlays, smart sidebar, quick launch gestures, Zen Space, and all the regular OxygenOS features you would expect.

There is some bloatware pre-installed though. Apps like Facebook, Spotify, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Instagram come preloaded out of the box. You also get first-party OnePlus apps like App Picks, Internet browser, lock screen glance, Community, and IR Remote. Thankfully, most of these apps can either be disabled or their notifications can be turned off completely.

The IR blaster integration is also genuinely useful. The built-in IR Remote app works well for controlling TVs, ACs, and other appliances directly from the phone.

OnePlus AI Features

OnePlus AI

The Nord CE6 includes most of the OnePlus AI features that are available on the Nord 6, although Mind Space support is missing here. Still, there is a surprisingly large number of AI tools available throughout the system.

Inside the Photos app, you get AI Eraser, AI Reflection Eraser, AI Recompose, AI Perfect Shot, AI Detail Boost, AI Portrait Glow, and AI Unblur. These features can remove unwanted objects, reflections, blur, and even reframe images automatically. AI Recompose in particular tries to improve framing and composition after taking the shot.

AI VoiceScribe is also present and can record, transcribe, summarize, and translate audio. The Recorder app supports AI summaries and smart transcripts, while the Notes app includes AI formatting tools, AI summaries, and mind map generation. AI Speak can read webpages aloud, AI Writer helps generate or rewrite text, and AI Summary can summarize articles or webpages directly inside supported apps.

You also get AI Translate support, Google Gemini integration, and several productivity-focused AI tools spread throughout the system. Most of these features work fairly well and they are integrated naturally inside apps.

Overall, OxygenOS 16 on the Nord CE6 still delivers a smooth and feature-rich experience. The reduced software support and removed visual features are disappointing, though the actual day-to-day usability remains very good.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Biometrics

OnePlus Nord CE6

The Nord CE6 uses an in-display optical fingerprint scanner. The placement is slightly lower than ideal, though the actual performance is good. Unlock speed is quick, fingerprint recognition is reliable, and there were very few failed attempts during regular usage.

OnePlus also allows you to customize the fingerprint animation styles, which adds a little bit of personalization to the unlock experience.

Face unlock is available too and works quickly in good lighting conditions, though it relies entirely on the front camera and is mainly useful for convenience.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Performance

OnePlus Nord CE6

Performance on the Nord CE6 is good overall and aligns closely with what you would expect from the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with the Adreno 810 GPU, LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. My unit came with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.

The chipset itself is a decent performer for this price segment. Daily usage is smooth with quick app launches, good multitasking performance, and decent background app management. Social media apps, Chrome tabs, camera processing, YouTube, and multitasking all work smoothly without major slowdowns.

OnePlus Nord CE6

Storage performance is also decent thanks to UFS 3.1, and that definitely helps OxygenOS maintain its fast and responsive behavior. App installation speeds, file transfers, and game loading times are reasonably quick.

Gaming performance is solid for BGMI and similar competitive games. BGMI supports up to 90 FPS gameplay on the Nord CE6, and during testing the phone was generally able to sustain around 80 FPS fairly consistently. Temperatures usually stay around 38 to 40°C during longer sessions.

The phone also includes a 5000 mm² vapor chamber cooling system along with graphite cooling layers, which definitely helps with thermal management.

The Trinity Game Zone features are also present here with gaming tools, notification blocking, touch optimization, frame interpolation options, bypass charging, and network optimization features.

OnePlus Nord CE6

When it comes to heavier games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves, the limitations of the chipset become more visible. You can still play these games comfortably at medium settings, though there are stutters and visible frame drops during demanding scenes.

Average frame rates usually stay around 30 to 40 FPS in these games. Temperatures also rise slightly higher in these games, though overheating itself is not really an issue here.

This is not the kind of phone that can deliver a flagship-level gaming performance. Instead, the Nord CE6 is made for stable day-to-day performance, casual gaming, and battery efficiency. For games like BGMI, COD Mobile, Free Fire, and regular usage, it performs well.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Cameras

OnePlus Nord CE6

The cameras on the OnePlus Nord CE6 are a bit of a mixed situation. OnePlus has downgraded the rear setup compared to the Nord CE5. The ultra-wide camera is gone, replaced by a 2 MP depth sensor, and the main camera now uses a smaller 50 MP OV50D40 main camera with a 1/2.88-inch sensor size, f/1.8 aperture, 27 mm focal length, PDAF, dual-axis OIS.

At the same time, the selfie camera gets a big upgrade. You now get a 32 MP front camera with autofocus and 4K video recording support, which is a major improvement over the older model. Let’s see how the cameras perform in actual use.

Note: The review is still in progress. We’ll be adding camera samples soon.

Main Camera

In daylight conditions, the main camera can still produce fairly good results. Photos have decent detail, colors look pleasant, and dynamic range is generally acceptable in balanced lighting conditions. OnePlus processing continues to lean slightly toward vibrant social-media-friendly images, and most people will probably like the final output immediately after capture.

The camera performs best at 1X. Images look reasonably sharp, white balance is mostly stable, and HDR works fine in simpler scenes. The dual-axis OIS also helps with stabilization while taking photos and recording videos.

At the same time, the smaller sensor becomes noticeable in more difficult conditions. Harsh sunlight, strong backlighting, neon signs, and indoor lighting can cause highlight clipping and inconsistencies in HDR processing.

Low-light photography is where the limitations become much more obvious. The phone tries to reduce noise aggressively, though this also introduces a lot of smoothing and detail loss in darker scenes.

The camera also relies heavily on AI sharpening and reconstruction once you crop in beyond 2X. At around 4X and above, details fall apart quickly and edge reconstruction starts looking artificial. If you zoom further to 5X or 10X, images become noticeably soft with visible processing artifacts.

Portraits

Portrait mode works reasonably well under good lighting. Subject separation is mostly accurate and skin tones generally look natural enough. You can still occasionally notice edge detection inconsistencies around hair or glasses, though overall portrait performance is decent for the segment. You have to get close at shoot at 1.2X or 35mm for decent results.

Selfie Camera

The selfie camera is actually one of the strongest parts of the Nord CE6 camera setup. OnePlus has upgraded this to a 32 MP GC32E2 autofocus camera, and the improvement over the Nord CE5 is noticeable.

Selfies capture good detail, skin tones look fairly natural, and autofocus helps a lot during both photography and video recording. If you move around while recording or bring objects closer to the camera, the autofocus system adjusts properly and keeps subjects sharp.

The 21 mm focal length is also reasonably wide, allowing you to fit more people inside the frame comfortably. Selfie videos look stable, HDR is decent, and low-light selfies are surprisingly usable for this segment.

Video

The Nord CE6 supports up to 4K 30 FPS video recording from both the rear and front cameras. Stabilization is decent thanks to OIS and EIS working together on the main camera. Daylight footage looks fairly clean with acceptable dynamic range and stable colors.

Low-light video quality is quite disappointing. There’s a lot of noise, and details soften noticeably. Exposure control can also fluctuate slightly during darker scenes.

Overall, the Nord CE6 cameras are usable for casual photography and social media, though this is clearly not a camera-focused phone. If cameras are a major priority for you, phones like the vivo T5 Pro or even the older Nord 5 make more sense.

OnePlus Nord CE6 Review: Battery Life and Charging

OnePlus Nord CE6

Battery life is easily the biggest highlight of the OnePlus Nord CE6. The phone comes with a massive 8,000 mAh battery, and with regular daily usage like social media, YouTube, Chrome, camera usage, messaging, navigation, and some gaming, I was consistently getting around 13 to 14 hours of screen-on time. Even heavier usage still leaves plenty of battery at the end of the day. This is the kind of phone where battery anxiety basically disappears completely.

Charging speeds are solid too considering the battery size. The Nord CE6 supports 80W SUPERVOOC charging (55W PPS) and the charger is included inside the box. Charging the full 8,000 mAh battery takes around an hour and 5 minutes, which is respectable.

OnePlus Nord CE6

The phone also supports bypass charging, which is especially useful while gaming because power can directly run the system instead of continuously heating the battery during long gaming sessions.

OnePlus Nord CE6

You also get 27W reverse wired charging support. This allows the phone to charge accessories, earbuds, or even another smartphone in emergency situations. Although in my usage, the phone isn’t always charging at 27W.

Review Verdict: Should You Buy the OnePlus Nord CE6?

The OnePlus Nord CE6 is a slightly confusing phone because it improves several areas while also downgrading some really important ones. The battery life is excellent, the display is incredible, OxygenOS is super smooth and feature-rich, durability has improved massively, it’s got better speakers and haptics, and the selfie camera is really good for the price.

At the same time, the rear cameras clearly take a step backwards compared to the Nord CE5. Removing the ultra-wide camera entirely is disappointing, the main sensor is smaller now, software support has been reduced, and NFC is missing once again. Those compromises are difficult to ignore at around ₹30,000.

Still, if your priorities are battery life, durability, gaming, display quality, and smooth software, the Nord CE6 does a lot right (at ₹28,000 after offers) . The massive 8,000 mAh battery completely changes the day-to-day experience, and the phone remains surprisingly comfortable despite that battery size.

If cameras and long-term software support are important to you, then the Nord 5 (if stock is available), vivo T5 Pro, or other alternatives will make much more sense.
